I like Danny, but for some reason, I always get a laugh when people call him "noodle arm."

DE DOES have his points of positivity. However, overall, he isn't sufficient for great success.
You know nothing of the game of football. Football is a team game New system, new coach, very, very young players on OL, Not deep in wr's and you think the QB is the guy preventing LSU from great success. You are a special kind of Football Stupid.

DE is better than Mett. DE with Metts offensive line an WRs would have put up some great numbers. Mett and DE are the only good QBs we have had in a long time.

Pump the brakes.
I like Etling, especially his leadership and grit, but Tommy Hodson was one of the best QBs to play here.

So quiet that we can't even see it as fans.

He def doesn't suck he's been winning games with no oline and 1 legitimate WR plus still putting up a better passer rating than any of Tommy Hodsons. He has 1 turnover the entire season in a chaotic offense and it came in a desperation situation while offbalance taking a hit. Etling is everything you want in a QB and if the rest of the offense would play with his smarts and toughness we'd be a great football team
He doesn't suck, but when you've got to throw basically everyone else under the bus in order to support Danny, it's hard to argue he's any good either.

This a great example where stats don’t tell the real story.

Because clicking on the link would show you that TigerRee was using sarcasm to make the very point you are making.

No. You're not going to lean on Etling anywhere close to what we did with Mett.
Etling had the good OL and RBs last year, and how did that work out?

Etling's passer rating is buoyed by the non conference schedule. He's 10th in the conference in passer rating vs conference foes. He's completing 51% of his passes and has 2 TDs and 0 INTs, with 156 yards per game in the 3 games.
Etling doesn't suck, but he's not a good QB either.

the article is comparing qb's within their team system. in that regard, i can see how etling might be 4th best. it's weird because the receivers have had crucial drops but, they've bailed him out A LOT which i'm sure is true of every team though. plus he got that 50/50 ball against fla. easy dropped int against auburn. it seems like the times receivers have bailed him out have been on long passes which changes the dynamic tremendously.
i guess my take is he's clearly regressed because he's missing relatively easy passes that he's made in the past, even earlier this season. however, within the context of the offense and in comparison to other teams, he's doing a yeoman's job.

You are entitled to your opinion but the numbers speak for themselves. He also outplayed the second hottest QB in the SEC by a mile he is constantly under pressure constantly in 3rd and long situations due to the lack of a run game and has almost no help from secondary WRs. Besides Chark you have guys dropping balls running the wrong routes the wrong sight and coverage adjustments they fall down all of the time for no reason (like when Gage fell down on that throw the Auburn DB dropped that you're blaming on Etling) and sometimes don't even look for the ball. You say he doesn't get to his reads and that's just not true, sometimes he only has time to see one guy and when he does have time WRs are Messi g up. Take the intentional grounding penalty, the route he threw too was at lest his 3rd option, the WR had a corner route called but two DB were playing outside leverage and wouldn't let him get outside but instead of making the proper adjustment and breaking the route inside he just stopped all together so Etling had to throw the ball away. If you know what you're looking at you'll notice these things happening all of the time. Think about his supporting cast mainly oline and WRs besides Chark and then think about the fact that his passer rating is 20 points higher than Matt Flynns title season and higher than any of Tommy Hodsons seasons with that supporting cast. Darrius Guice production has dropped significantly even when healthy because of the Oline yet he gets a pass, Etling has actually improved and ignorant fans rip him because of they're incorrect evaluation of his talent level and play.

I know he tries hard, but he’s terrible. He came really close to losing the Florida game for us on his own. Being one of the better QB’s in the SEC is not much of an accomplishment these days apparently.
Are we going to start praising Jordan Jefferson next?

When you need 125 yards passing he will get it for you
When you need a 75 yard TD to a wide open receiver he will get you a 40 yard completion to that same receiver who has to stop and come back to catch it.

The margin for error in those numbers is razor thin though. Let's say the UF DB doesn't drop that pick-6 two weeks ago - now Etling is 7th in passer rating in the conference and LSU is 4-3.
To be fair, there are situations like the Miss St. TD that was called back that would work in favor of Etling as well.
My point is Etling is sitting there tied at 4th with a 148.08 rating, and #6 and #7 are at 147.54 and 146.92. He's not some clear cut upper tier SEC QB this year.

When an article says the QB is good, it seems to be the rant agrees with the article!!
When an article is written with stats saying the O-line is good, the rant laughs and says they are crazy.....
I honestly dont understand why Etling is the most protected player in rant history. People go out of there way to bash others in his defense.
Nobody should bash players on here, but we dont have to stretch the truth and actually end up tearing other players down in order to defend one

So i guess Timmy Chang is one of the best QB's in college of all time, b/c the numbers say so.
quote:
he is constantly under pressure
The offensive line has played good the last two games. These aren't excuses that can be made for the last 2 games.
quote:
constantly in 3rd and long situations
That's b/c no defense is scared of him so they play the run, so all he can do is throw deep or check down, and his check downs are to people that aren't good. Maybe if we got the ball to our playmakers quickly, they'd pick up some short yardage, but Etling isn't capable of throwing a quick WR screen.
quote:
has almost no help from secondary WRs.
That's on coaching. Too many Les Miles formations with 3 TE's on the field.

no argument from me on that.

Again, i don't want to hear the excuse of him not having time, b/c he has had it the last two games, against elite DLines as well. He's indecisive and scared in the pocket. The pass the Moreau dropped on 3rd down, yeah he dropped it, but the pass should have been there a second earlier.
He just looks scared in the pocket, and scared to make a mistake, and he wasn't like that last year.
I'm not blaming Etling for everything. I would blame the coaching, WR's and play calling more than Etling. That being said, he's still not a good QB, and the numbers show he's not a good QB.
Grayson Lambert, the senior QB for UGA last year, lost his job to a true freshman. He put up almost identical number to Etling from last year. Lambert wasn't good enough with his good sec numbers (5th in passer rating in 2015), but Etling is?
We are literally in the exact same situation as UGA was last year. New coach and system, senior QB who was ok the previous year, but nothing special, and a true freshman qb with gobs of talent. Granted Eason is probably better and was more ready than Brennan, but UGA told the senior QB no thanks after being the 5th best QB in the conference.

Etling is 8th in completion %
Etling is 5th in rating
Etling is 11th in tds
Etling is 6th in passing yds per game
Etling is perfectly average in the SEC for QBs.
