Critics Consensus: Exciting, funny, and above all fun, Thor: Ragnarok is a colorful cosmic adventure that sets a new standard for its franchise -- and the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Will be interesting to see where this lands.
The trailers look awesome but that can always be misleading

Smart move on their part giving it a Guardians of the Galaxy feel

I have a feeling that Taika voicing Korg is going to crack my shite up every time he's on screen. Cannot wait for this movie.

Agreed. The tone of the Thor movies never worked for me with how dramatic they were. I found them to be the most boring of the marvel movies, but i'm really excited for this one!

Thor: Ragnarok is fun in its own kinetic, comic book fashion but it doesn't have any dramatic urgency whatsoever.
So basically like every other MCU film?

It's sitting at 100% 31 critics in.

Isn't this a start of a Hulk trilogy since they can't do a stand alone Hulk film without Universal being apart of it?

So apparently it's a straight up comedy. I'm not knowledgeable on comic book stories, but isn't comedy exactly the opposite of what Ragnarok should be?

Ragnorak is the ultimate pratfall.

Considering the director there was no way this wasn't going to go in a comedic direction.
With that being said, I figured they'd up the seriousness given the upcoming infinity war plotlines as I thought this was a pivotal moment in the marvel universe to finally bring Thanos front and center in opposition to the current group of marvel heroes.

It would be doing a disservice to the film not to utilize Hemsworth’s comedic talents. It really is his strong point as an actor. The last 2 have fallen a bit flat with me on the dramatic themes front. This looks to be a rollicking roller coaster ride in space- looks like loads of fun- especially Hulk. Looking forward to it.

i would agree with that. i didn't hate the 2 thors, but they're two of my least favorites. he's much better used as comedic, whereas Chris Evans doesn't need to touch funny outside of one liners about how old and outdated he is.

I was watching ABCs block of comedies last night, and at every commercial they showed a different 5-10 clip of Thor and Banner quipping and each one seemed funnier than the last. So I could see this one being pretty enjoyable.

Yes annnddd.... No.
The problem with Thor as a character, is outside of a few real dark representations (namely Ultimate Thor) Thor, and his world, are....goofy. Even more so than typical cheesy 60s-80s comics. Thor's earnestness mixed with his Medieval delivery, a mix of fantasy and sci fi tropes, and colorful aliens and creatures just lead to an always fun adventure.
However, yes, Ragnarok, a modern Thor arc, is super dark. As usual, the MCU is kind of blending old and new stories, old and new tones, and creating something new from it. You, usually, can't view these as direct adaptations of stories, more of a presentation of Silver Age sensibilities, modern trappings, with usually more modern stories.
Even Thor 1 was a blend of the original Thor Arc + a touch of Ultimate Thor + a few other stories. All wrapped up in the tone that Marvel mostly pulls from the Silver/Bronze Age.
