I've legit been late to work before because I missed the train by seconds due to people blocking the escalator. Sure I probably could've hopped over the edge and gotten on the stairs and sprinted down but I'm not about to do that
Someone posted about the ones for the metro system in DC. Those are in fact the escalators I'm referring to

You've obviously don't ride the trains much in big cities, In NYC or DC if you stop on the left you will probably get run over.
Obvious exception in airport escalators if you have a bag. Even then in busy airports a lot of people walk on those with bags.

Peachtree Center Station in Atlanta has some massive ones too. The platforms are 120 feet underground. The Ellis Street escalator is 193 feet long and steep.
I've rode that one before, station was fairly empty and no one was in front of me so I walked it up (it was moving) wearing a backpack. I was out of breathe by the time I reached the top and had to take a break before walking again, that thing is no joke.

There's an unwritten rule that if you're standing on the escalator, you stay to the right. So that people moving can pass you on the left.
As someone who takes the train to/from work every day, people who break this rule drive me crazy. Huge pet peeve of mine.

I guess I wasn't thinking about massive escalators in transit stations. We have a few here at work, but the main ones going up and down to a 2nd level food court are skinny. You're not passing anyone on them. Pretty much a single file line. That's what bothers me when people don't keep walking. There is no option to pass so they are literally holding up everyone behind them. I think it takes me about 10-12 steps walking up them before I'm at the top, but you always get some fatty that wants to lean on the rail and catch their breath before going upstairs to eat their mountain of food at lunch that holds up 10 people behind them. If it isn't peak hours, by all means stand there. But between 11-1, walk your fat arse a few more steps. We all know you need it.

In any case , be careful when using escalators. You would be surprised at how many fatalities there have been on them.

baffles me how some people are content with moving up/down at a snail's pace on those things
I don't get out and run beside the car so no I don't walk up an escalator.
Do you jump up and down while you're in the elevator?

I continue walking on the flat people movers at the airports. Inclines, I stand. I have bad knees.

I do love to fart on them though.

Yes,
In fact ever since I seen that video of that woman get eaten to death by an escalator, I walk over the end of it.

Well I don’t have much of a choice in an elevator like I do on an escalator

Yes. And when I get off the escalator I use the left lane to pass the foot draggers, and bob and weave when they like to take up the whole walkway.
I walk and drive with a sense of purpose.

If there are stairs next to the escalator, I take those. If not, I will walk up the escalator UNLESS there are people in the way.

There's a written law that if you're driving you shouldn't be in the left lane unless you're passing so that people moving can pass you on the left.
Unfortunately this is violated even more often than the unwritten escalator rule.

What type of douchebag rushes up or down an escalator? Enjoy the ride dick. There's nothing that important in your life that you have to push past people on a fcuking escalator that takes less than a minute to reach the top or bottom. frick you
There's nothing that important in your life that justifies intentionally taking time out of people's lives. Your 15 second delay may keep me waiting on a train platform for the next 20 minutes, making me late for an important work meeting.
frick you with a barbed penis.

And when the monthly thread bitching about drivers who drive slow in the left lane comes up, you can complain about it there. This thread is about escalator etiquette.
