If this ever happened, do we have plans to shoot prisoners on sight?
If not, prepare for gangs of convicts roaming the cities and countryside.

The EMP will fry anything connected to a battery and anything with electricity flowing through it. If NoKo planned to set off an EMP, they would not use only one. All motors will get fried; therefore, ALL water pumps, gas pumps, natural gas pumps that get fried will need to be replaced, all household electronics that are plugged in, all wiring inside homes, auto, or boat, everything. You will not be able to pump gas, use credit cards, etc. There will be no refrigeration because ALL refrigerators will be fried too. Automobiles will not work if their battery is connected. There will be no internet, cell phones won't work. How to combat this: 1) Have a spare car and disconnect the battery. (Run the car once a week, but disconnect your other car battery when you drive this car.) 2) Have a generator at your house. Make sure it is disconnected from the grid, and the battery is disconnected. Run it periodically according to manufacturer specs. Have a 100 - 1000 gallon tank filled to the top which you can retrieve the fuel manually. 3) Have a coal/wood fired grill with Plenty of wood/coal. 4) Be able to grow your own food. 5) Have extra rice, canned foods, any food that has a long shelf life. 6) Have a manual water well. 7) Have plenty of candles, kerosine lamps, and spare batteries not connected to anything electrical. 8) Have a few acres of land with cows, goats, and/or chickens. You will need a food supply. 9) Build a faraday Cage to protect your electronics. Even though the internet won't work, you will be able to access computer files stored on your computer and hard drive if you protect it. Your generator can recharge your battery. LINK /
You ought to read "One Second After" just for fun, dj; it's a Novel.
I note that in your plan you omit any strategy dealing with what will be the number ONE threat...such being desperate roving gangs of individuals who will target any other individual or group who has those basic survival tools/commodities. You'd have a big red bullseye on your back if you were living...while people around you were dying off. No way they just go quietly if you turn down 'sharing' with them. It would take a well-trained force of warriors to protect a community against such a threat. Speculated on in the Novel.
Bottom line. We need to KNOW just how real and relatively powerful the threat of a single EMP is. And just what are the chances of our defenses working against such a threat. After seeing what the DC Deep State is capable of, from here on in it needs to be "trust but verify". It seems they are more invested in Ideological Politics and keeping the extraordinary power/affluence/security in their Bureaucracy than they are doing the job for which we created and hired them to do. That is always the danger of creating powerful Bureaucracy.
Oh well...we'll fight until we die. It'll always be something.

Would an EMP destroy a motorized bike?
I think a working car would draw too much attention if you live in a city, even if you get out IMMEDIATELY. Same goes for traveling w/ any sort of transportation on a highway or major interstate.
How long do you guys think it would take for the rail lines, abandoned lines to become infested with raiders etc?

Most of the idiots on here are delusional and have spent too much time reading fear mongering sites or watching ridiculous movies. Like the genius a few posts above yours claiming that everything in the country connected to a battery would be fired

The entire grid goes down as the result of a massive EMP strike and I can buy the numbers of deaths being in the high 80 to 90%... The likelihood of that being triggered by North Korea is not very likely...
However, I could see them taking down the grid on the West Coast without much trouble... That grid is not in great shape to start with (brownouts often) and it would not take a lot to overload it... The grid is complex but when one part fails, it typically causes another part to fail, and then another until that grid collapses...
For those of you saying it will take a couple of days to get it back up, in the right scenario it could take months or even years to get the grid back fully operational... I am currently working a project, where a major power company has a 6-month lead time on one substation transformer just for one example...
Also, you really need to think about what isn't going to be working post EMP, especially in the immediate area:
Every car on the highway is dead where it sits.
Every computer, cell phone, electronic device.
Public Transportation is down.
Water and sewage is down.
Elevators are not working.
Hospitals do not have power and gen sets are fried.
Your fridge and freezer are toast.
Electronic payments systems are down.
Banks are down.
Stores are down.
Pharmacies down.
Need me to go on?
Oh and for all you baws in Alabama that are all of a sudden going to live off the land, good luck:
You might garden but without non-GMO seed that is one season, not to mention done by hand.
Everyone else is going to be hunting and fishing.
You are walking everywhere you go.
How are you going to store food?
Where are you getting water?
Do you take a daily medication for life support? Are you diabetic? Insulin dependent, you are fricked.
Need me to go on?
Now, the government has been aware of the vulnerability of the grid for years. The power companies have admitted they are not prepared for such an instance. However, the "problem" has been deemed too expensive to prepare for and they will ignore it. It is what happens when the presence of a potential problem is weighed against likelihood and cost. In other words, the government sees the potential loss of life as an acceptable risk.

This is just propaganda to fund more money into the military complex. You are all fools.

Don't chime in with your reason during a good fear mongering.

I mean, I like my A/C as much as the next guy, but not sure I buy 90% of Americans will die without power.

Two words:
Feral Hogs
There are enough of them on my farm to feed half of Alabama for a month. And those little bastards breed at a very high rate.
The 90% number probably takes into account the highly populated areas. If an EMP were to strike say the west coast I could see HUGE numbers of dead people in Los Angeles etc. First those people don't know how to fish, hunt, make river water drinkable etc. Grocery stores would run out of food in a day or two. All the interstates are blocked with cars whose computers are fried. Airports are down. Food shipments pretty much stop. Violence erupts and many die from that. Those that survive die off as food and water becomes scarce. Dead bodies and untreated sewage cause disease to explode. Diarrhea, Cholera, and Dysentery move rapidly through the survivors.
With most of the people either starving or diseased who will clear the cars from the roads, fix the water treatment plants, deliver the groceries?
It would get bad and stay bad for a long time.

I'm in PR for work and 90% of the island has no power for weeks now, no one (or very few in hospitals) is going to die from no power.

I just can't believe how stupid and naive most of the people on this board are. A few people brought up the novel One Second After. This novel is well researched into the realization of what an EMP can do to this country, getting into the gory details. Not withstanding other points people made, interject perceived enemies and allies taking advantage of the situation and invade the US, which they disguise as aid and support. The follow up novels One Year After and The Final Day are great reads as well.

I have a yeti and closet full of guns and ammo aka.. part of the 10% .

I understand what you are saying but the difference is that PR is only 3 million people or so and the area is quite small. So relief is able to come in fairly easily.
If an EMP hit the west coast, there could be 25-30 million people without power. The sheer number of people and size of the area affected would be overwhelming.

Doubt they could. But. America losing power will be worse than a nuke attack

Second fact: multiple black start units throughout the grid. Using those to supply Aux to other power plants to get the grid back up would not take days much less years. This is retarded.
Thats.....that's not how EMPs work.
The 90% figure is absurd, and their capability while possible, seems unlikely, but what you just said is just as stupid.

And how much airlifted food was that?
If there is an continental EMP, millions upon millions are going to die. Depending on full circumstances, I can easily see a worst case of 50+%
I just question 90% in a year.
I lot of people, even outdoor baws, overestimate their ability to survive when you can no longer go to the store for anything.

Do any of you people understand if all of our refineries suddenly shut down it Could cause explosions and fires. Pipes would get coked up and plugged. And Nuclear power plants could over heat. People would loot and burn major cities on the first night.
