I like the over.

Even a fan not high on Pels would take over...
Heck. Most national writers apart from Celtics' Ringer will take over...

That's the vegas over under, not his own personal number

On paper the combustibility rating for this team is off the charts. You have 3 notorious personalities on this team in Cousins, Rondo and Allen. People are waiting for this thing to blow up after hitting the smallest speed bump. What they don’t realize is these 3 guys all know and like each other, and Rondo has coaches he can yell at in Gentry and Erman that aren’t going to get upset about it and start a him or me power struggle over it like happened in Dallas.
I also think several other teams like Minnesota are getting overrated. There isn’t much separation in the back of the playoff race. There are a bunch of unknowns that will determine who makes the playoffs like injury and whether some of the young offensive stars like KAT and Jokic start playing better defense.

I'd take the under. Fully healthy, I think the team would be over .500. But it very top heavy and two of the biggest stars (Davis and Holiday) are very injury prone. I think they finish with around 35 wins..

40-43 if reasonably healthy
so...take the over
so...take the over

I think the Pels will get off to a fast start then they will be just average from the All-Star break forward as teams learn how to defend Rondo, AD, Boogie, and Jrue. I think they will end up around the 45-50 win mark.

Under.
No sf to speak of.
No bench.
Rondo big if.
Even if we see all star rondo, the lack of bench will absolutely kill them.
The top teams all have real benches. Those teams will crush the pels.
Pels lead by 5 going into last 3 Minutes of first half, then the bench is swatted aside. Pels hard won lead evaporates. This will happen enough times to demoralize rondo, then cousins will catch the rondo induced idngaf. Pels will also often just get outscored by 20 to 25 at the sf position.
Top end 50
Bottom 25
O/u. 33
I love AD.
The ownership/budget, asik deal, and hill injury snuffs out the pels. God help them if ad or cousins or jrue is out a month and takes 10 games to get back his touch.
That last injury scenario = 25 game win total.

I see all the concerns. Sub-par bench. No real SF. Combustable personalities. I still say over. Mainly because if not, the Pelicans might not have another roster like this for a long time. So it's really hopeful thinking.
I project something like:
1) Warriors
2) Rockets
3) Spurs
4) Thunder
5) Nuggets
6) Wolves
7) Pelicans - 45-37 (last year the 7th seed won 43 games)
8) Jazz
9) Blazers
10) Clippers
11) Kings
12) Grizz
13) Mavs
14) Suns
15) Lakers

Jake Madison made it sound like they might not do the same staggering as last year because that was due in part to Cousins poor fitness level which has been corrected. However, if they are still staggering all of your bench concerns are moot. Depth issues if injuries occur are still there, but if they stagger most bench units would have 2 of Rondo/Jrue and AD/DC on them and should outperform most other 2nd units.

There's no excuse (outside of injury) to not have at least one of Rondo/Jrue and one of AD/Cousins on the court at all times.
I think the bench units might actually have a better +/- than the starting/finishing unit.
I thought it was interesting that they went with Jrue/Cousins, as the first bench unit. I just assumed they'd go with Jrue/AD and Rondo/Cousins.

Unless the Cousins/Davis lineup is just killing people, the most logical thing is to stagger them so one is pretty much always in the floor.
If done properly, our "bench" units should be one of our biggest strengths. Start Rondo/Holliday/Cunningham/Davis/Cousins, take out Cousins and Rondo at around the 6 min mark and put in Clark and Moore. Then to start the second quarter go Rondo/Allen/Crawford/Moore(or Clark)/Cousins

Assuming we are healthy, I love the over.

So 4 guards, small guards, and Cousins? Plus playing a starter with bench players doesn't make the "bench" stronger. It just masks their weaknesses and forces a lesser player to play with the starters. Who is going to be playing on Davis' squad, when Cousins is resting? Diallo? Other teams will just adjust and stagger their starters as well, to get the best match ups..

Still think they win between 45-50

no question our bench, starters, offense are all better than they were last season. however our bench is still below average and our defense will probably drop due to the Solo injury. and as much grief as we give Solo, his absence seriously hurts us.
from my point of view, we decrease on defense, increase on offense, and increase in our starters & bench. last year we won 34 games. I think the magic # will be about 42. So do our positives from last year push us to +8 games this season? Was our record skewed last season having lost 17 of our first 24 games?
Lots of questions this season.

You tell that to the backup big and backup PG trying to defend a Rondo/Boogie P&R with 3 capable 3 point shooters next to them.

It will be interesting to see how good the small ball unit is without Hill, but last year the small ball unit that was getting good enough to have made the playoffs had the trade not happened. The staggering units I would expect to see would be
A small ball unit built around Jrue/AD with 3 of Moore/Clark/Miller/Cunningham
A Boogie P&R attack with
Rondo or Crawford at point, Boogie at center and 3 shooters.

The problem AD/DC present is that most teams have at best 1 defender good enough to slow 1 of them down. How are they going to stagger that 1 guy? This isn't like Greg Monroe off the bench when we were able to put Asik on him. Boogie will just take 3s and drive if they put an Asik on him.
