How did we only sign 2 total DT's from 2014-2015?

And by the way, they're both gone now (Valentine and Lealaimatafao). All our big guys up front on defense signed in 2013, 2016, and 2017. That is a gaping hole left by the previous staff, before Ed Orgeron got here.
In no way does this post suggest Ed Orgeron is definitely the answer for LSU. I think it's way too early to tell.

Haley, Brick
Chavis, John
O was specifically brought in to undo the talent drain on the DL because our non DB defensive recruiting had flatlined with those two on staff.

He's gotten/secured Alexandrer, Lawrence, Shelvin, and Fehoko and 3 other depth guys in the last 2 classes. I'm not the biggest Ed On fan but you have to give the guy some time to patch the holes left from past recruiting classes.

Oh I wasn't trying to blast O or imply he hasn't done what he was brought on to do. He started the process, along with Steele going after some bigger bodies at LB, but like you say, it's gonna take multiple cycles to restock.

Remember when everyone was worried about LB's this time last year? O pretty much eliminated that concern getting Taylor and Phillips late. Oline and Dline usually take a few years to rebuild.

3 DTs actually, Godchaux was 2014 and though listed as a DE on recruiting sites, was always gonna be a DT at LSU. still too few, and obviously he's gone too.
2015 is what really hurts, because we actually signed a good number of DT types in '13, '14, and '16. it's crazy how many are knuckleheads (Travonte, Trey Lay, Quay Bain, and Herron to an extent).

I didn't read thru everything so maybe this has been stated, but if we only recruited 3 DTs, that's on us. If we only signed 3, that's because some of those kids chose to go elsewhere

And - again, to give credit where credit is due, Ed just flat outworked everyone else on Chaisson (who will be great next year and in 2019 - just needs some experience) - a kid whose scholarship offers numbered 3 digits.
ETA: Yeah, I know he's not a DT - and in our system not technically a DL player, but is essentially a DE and arguably within Ed's purview.

Thus makes Tyler Shevlin not being eligible sting that much more

You tell the truth that this occurred under the eye of Less Miles and you get 5 down votes....
Com on Less Miles, Jr. you only get one down vote against the truth

This is why I'm willing to give O a push on at least this season. Not because of his recruiting, but because our talent level had really started to decline the past few years. O wasn't walking in to a stacked team. We have one of the worst O-lines I've seen from LSU in a while, no depth on the DL, no proven depth at WR. It takes time.

Shhhhh. Nobody wants to hear this. I got blasted for pointing that out earlier this week.

chavis and haley screwed this defense big time. O was brought in and he has helped a lot on the DL while Aranda has begun to recruit LB's again. miles got complacent and was happy signing a thousand highly ranked db's and rb's thus giving him a top overall recruiting rating.
no one seems to acknowledge the facts that coach O inherited a mess in some damn important areas. their hate closes their minds.

We've always been stacked in the WR and secondary position...but Miles lack of recruiting quality big man on both sides of the ball including MLB as well as keeping the attrition levels down on the lines is haunting this team.
