The offense I saw Sat night would have gained a first down on Bama D, sideline to sideline speed will kill this offense

What, why is O meddling? It was stated in the offseason that Orgeron expressed a desire to still have a 50/50 run/pass split with the offense. That's his input, Canada has to implement it. This isn't meddling. I'm sure every Monday the staff meets up and discusses the last game and what they should do going forward. You're trying to make it like Canada is asking for permission to change his offense, where it's probably more "this is what I'm seeing, this is what I think we need to do". I'm sure Orgeron has his opinion on that, but this is the basis for ANY organization, business or sports. Run it by the head person.

In other words, Canada said put away the binder.

Would removing presnap motion help the offensive line block better? Honest question
Posted on 9/25/17 at 1:30 pm to sicboy
Last week it was "slow it down" this week its "simplify things". whats our path forward going to be next Monday when our O-line allows Troy to camp out in the backfield Saturday?

The motion works when the D has to account for it. When LSU motions, teams know they are still going to attempt Power football, so they don't bite on the motions.
That's been the problem. Once the moving all around is completed, the offense is basically the same as it has been. The vaunted toss-dive has been replaced by the ultra readable jet sweep. The "new" offense ain't new, so the defenses, knowing what to expect, are just pinning their ears back and coming. The offense is simple enough already. These SEC defenses are fixing to feast.

I honestly don't know. I think Canada sees how awful the blocking has been and probably wants his blockers to not think too much pre-snap and focus on their assignments.
Maybe.
Maybe.

Pitts players must've been way smarter than our players. Otherwise none of this mak s any sense.
Canada only had a couple of good offenses in his entire career. Most have been pedestrian. He's just an adequate coordinator.

The biggest problem I see with this offense is once the play is called you pretty much got to go with it due to all the motion. There is no audible call. They ran right into the strong side of the defense damn near all night. Or they didn't switch to hot routes when they got blitzed. They all have tape now and know what we are doing.
As it stands right now this offense is terrible and no better than the toss dive shite Les did.
In order to be a good passing team YOU HAVE TO PASS THE DAMN BALL!!

So O has decided after all to have input in the offense? Where we were told after his hiring and preseason it was all up to Canada and O was a hands off coach? Now you're also telling me that it took 4 games for Canada to figure out we needed to slow things down?

When you overload one side then run up the gut or to the weak side that seems counter productive

Simple players need a simple system

If we had the talent, that would almost be good enough.

I thought a lot of Canada's offense involved quick drops by the QB and quick-hitters to the receivers/tight ends/backs, etc. And with an inexperienced O-Line,this would seem like a great idea, but we haven't seen much of this. What gives?
I agree. Can't remember when it was, but on one of the sustained drives Etling was in for he made quite a few quick underneath throws that worked well. And Brennan looked good at getting the ball out quickly.
I'm just puzzled as to what we've been looking at for 4 games. Either we were fed BS about Canada or something has gone terribly wrong

The solution is simple.
Start calling plays that your team can succeed at. We absolutely have not done that the last 3 games for the most part.
We've attempted hardly any quick WR screen passes. If a defender is playing 10 yards off the WR, just say hike and throw him the damn ball. You don't need to call that play, just do it. He'll get at least 4 yards, and that's assuming the DB makes a good tackle.
If you have your 6'4" wr being guarded by a 5'11 CB and it's single coverage with no safety help, throw him the damn ball. Stop trying to run at 9 in the box. If you can't complete a pass to your WR in this one on one situation, then either get a new WR, or get a new QB. Indiana did this for almost the entire game against Ohio State
IF you're going to have all this motion, just run the jet sweep. Either give it to him or don't. No need for the fake motion crap that the defense doesn't care about. That is the only motion that affects the defense.
Start calling plays that will keep teams from blitzing everyone. run some screens for gods sake.
Just make better play calls. It's like Les Miles is calling the damn plays. Stubborn play calling that could care less what the defense is showing. Just take what the defense if giving you. thats all i ask.

Probably. Part of the reason may be that the O linemen are mixing up who to block. I'm seeing a lot of whiffs and chips out there which makes me think they aren't exactly sure who to put a hat on until they are a threat. I think we should just run a zone blocking scheme the whole game and make it easier on the freshmen.
I still think the TE's and the WR's motion is practical for our struggling QB.

This is usually a statement made in desperation.
It's like when the schools president or team owner says he has confidence in the coach just before firing him.

I'd take the toss dive back in a heart beat. Let's just put it back into the playbook in just case we can't move the call on a below average ACC team for 27 minutes straight ever again.
Everyone minus the new RG has run it 6000 times. Apparently this line is not great in space, just throw a bunch of beef in a tight formation and guice will find his way to the end zone. You can still put Sullivan and Drake out there and they will still be taller and jump higher than DBs. Hell you can even still make one of them run across the formation a couple of times before you snap it too.
