The coaches get paid to produce.
So it's a product.
ETA: and it's a shitty product.

kids
My 3 year old is a kid. My 13 year old niece is a kid. The 18 to 23 year olds on the field are the same age as the men and women fighting overseas. Just saying

It is a product of many men working hard playing a sport.

Ok then stop charging money to watch

These players are not paying a dime for college and the coaches are making millions
Stop with the excuses

Boom
Also as others have said, it's on the coaches not the kids. With decent coaching we would be a good team

A game involving teams valued at $1billion and providing millions to not only the academic institution but to businesses in the region and else where.
Sadly, this was turned into big business a long time ago.

It brings in huge chunks of revenue for the school, the football program, and athletic dept as a whole. Many people work for those.
It brings in revenue for business in the area, which also employ people.
We play in a conference that gives out +30 million checks.
There are players whose performance earned them a free education valued in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Many players are auditioning for multi-million dollar paychecks. They are also using the program and it's coaches to prepare them for that industry.
Many many fans send huge chunks of their disposable income to the program for no reason other than they are fans and want to experience winning.
Many other people volunteer to work for the program for no pay for reasons basically coming down to being a fan and want to be around the program.
Coaches are vying for job security, paychecks, and in some cases making their careers and future paychecks based off having a good product.
This "game" is big business. It should be treated as such. It stops being "just a game" when you sign a contract to play in return for consideration ($ value of a scholarship).

Maybe at at ULL or LSU it is but at LSU and other big time programs it is a product.

You might want to consult a dictionary.

Well you're wrong, so there's that.

No it's a product and these are not kids, they are men.

When millions of dollars are involved, it's most definitely a product.
And the product looks like shite. Has for 6 years.

That's why the games are free to attend, televise, and watch. Oh wait...
Posted on 9/24/17 at 2:04 pm to Geauxlden Eagle
We pay to be entertained by these "kids." That's all it is. Entertainment. When it's no longer entertaining we will stop watching.

Awesome!! Can't wait to park in the free lot, walk into the stadium without a ticket & order some reasonably-priced snacks while wearing licensed apparel. ESPN will be thrilled to know they're broadcasting from Tiger Stadium without those pesky royalties. I'm not going to criticize student-athletes, but it's very much a premium product.
