Let's say a big time USC player is asked to play a football player in a movie, are they allowed to do it and stay eligible?

I would think something would be wrong with that
But if he's just acting to act I think it would be fine

Let me introduce you to the NCAA

That's what I'm thinking. On the surface that seems fine but I'm sure the NCAA would try and claim he only got hired because he's an athlete or some bs

It seems like as long as he is not playing himself in the movie it should be ok but I'm sure the NCAA will find a way to frick it up.

There was a college baseball player that was an actor. Tyler Hoechlin

It couldn't be A big time athlete. For example no way could Lamar Jackson play in a big box office movie. But if Sara Lue from the woman's tennis team decided to play in some random local low budget movie. I doubt anyone bats an eye.

That would be my understanding as well. Whether and how much he's paid would probably matter as well.

He's in Road to Perdition, one of my favorites.

I believe he took a break from acting to play college baseball. I'm not sure if it was due to eligibility issues or if he just didn't have the time but Hoechlin wasn't acting when he was playing college baseball.

Does it improve the quality of life of the athlete?
If "Yes", then it's not permitted.

NCAA just tweeted out something recently, not sure if they made changes to rules on how players can make money, outside of NCAA sports.
But it looked like the tweet said, "You can make $$, as long as it had nothing to do with ur sports/s".
So a football player in a movie about football would be a violation.

Northwestern RB Darnell Autry was a theater major and still had to sue the NCAA in the mid-1990s just to be able to have a small unpaid role in a movie.

That's not completely accurate.
You can make money for training athletes/running camps as long as you don't use your schools facilities. That's how it was always pitched to us anyway.
