Maybe they knew about it or maybe they didn't and it had nothing to do with Trump. They don't "need" NK, so maybe it has something to do with the actions of NK over the recent weeks and months.
According to the Poli Board Trump's speech was so good it reverberated back in time and effected events over the weekend.

Couldn't be that the EO sanctions Trump announced today was a reaction to China already cutting ties on Monday. Had to be the other way around, right?

Probably, just like the conversation for them both to put the squeeze on NK was likely in their previous meetings.

That's what you seem to be missing here, common sense. You do know the government stays a few days ahead of you and me when it comes to knowing shite. You have no idea if some kind of phone call was made a week ago or not ironing out this "deal" or if everything is just coincidental.

I'll go with a pre UN meeting phone call.

I mean there are 2 pathways of direct causation, with basically one scenario to each, and a number of possible scenarios without direct causation (e.g., independent of each other, something else causing both, mutual agreement, etc.).

So of all the possible scenarios, it’s illogical to assume that event that followers another, caused the preceding event. It’s only possible under the unsupported assumption that earlier event was based on knowledge of the subsequent event.

But that assumption is more illogical since the later event is pointless absent the earlier event occurring at some point.

In other words, the only truly consequential country for all parties is China. And the EO is a hollow threat as it pertains to China since it would be catastrophic for the entire world to enforce it against them. So it is no longer a hollow threat following their earlier announcement, but it's no longer consequential.

Given the order of events and the nature of them, this would be a textbook example of confirmation bias since so many are believing the most illogical scenario with such confidence.
