What I don't see most people complaining about now

Danny Etling.
Dude makes the passes more often than not. Works the pocket pretty nicely. Not the most accurate downfield, but he can get the ball there and he hits the receiver often enough to keep the secondary honest.
Get some help from our freshmen O-linemen and receivers not dropping good passes, and we'll get things clicking. But it's interesting for the QB to not be the problem for the first time in a long time!

Doesn't do too much a freshman couldn't do
especially with that line play

I have to agree.
We went from having shite QB play to having shite coaching. Oh how times have changed.

He didn't play great Saturday, but he didn't play poorly either.
The receivers looked like a huge pile of shite though.

There must be a reason they don't let him throw but like 50% of throws.
But right now he is the peanut in the shite

OP-----I see you missed most of last Saturday's game

Danny's play is a symptom of the larger issue, making a change at that position would be a band aid on a bullet wound

He's not a problem? Do you think any defensive coordinators believe they have to scheme to stop him? Danny is a good guy but he's the main reason why the offense is so stagnant.

Danny isn't a guy that's gonna go out and light up most teams or be in the best QB conversation but he's serviceable enough for what we need.
His problem this year is the lack of talent and experience at WR and OL

Etling is very mediocre and that is as good as he will get. It is hard for the offense to next the step with him at the helm. Etling is not the guy who will run a dynamic offense and sling it around as everyone on here wants us to do. After watching Etling last year did anyone really think the offense was going to become some great passing attack? The offense does not have the weapons this year to mask Etling's mediocrity.

Not just drops, but also pressure and bad routes made most of the incompletions.
I've been hoping the video with all his attempts in the MSU game would be posted like it usually is because I truly believe he's been wrongly attacked on here, been too busy/lazy to rewatch the whole thing.

The biggest "real" complaint about DE, for those that just don't automatically say "______ sux" after not watching the game and just looking at the box score or scoreboard, has been his hesitations. They are pretty bad and result in inaccurate passes and are probably why Canada is still shy about the middle.
It was apparent long ago, like last year, much of that was "chemistry". It hasn't gotten any better. But after MSU alot of that missing chemistry is on the WRs. The stopped routes, drops, bad fundamentals (e.g. not getting head around till too late in break), etc are mostly on the WRs. DE can't trust them to be at a certain place at a certain time making a certain break.
Every QB has this issue. We have it way too much. That's because it's the whole WR corp.
And for the people who were saying we should've been passing if just for practice, no matter Canada's philosophy, I say you are three quarters right. Because that would have indeed been live-action practice that addressed this issue, which has turned into the biggest issue we have.
The one-quarter I say you are not right is because the idea of following Canada's philosophy of attacking the opponent's D adjustments also requires practice. Unlike in the past DE/Canada has been changing plays based on D alignment during motions. And for those that say the motions are bullshite and "don't work in the SEC", which is retarded, those are BOTH reads and adjustments to the D. Or we could go back to the Miles era "run what was called, I don't give a shite what the D does". But the 1/4 is that requires practice too. So if we had been passing in the face of BYU's D where they were protecting against the pass, those reads would not have been made and that would have likely been an issue.
The idea of disrupting routes, timing, and chemistry has been around a long time. It is a mainstay of LSU's defense. It makes your DL better too. If your WRs can't get it done, LSU's DL will eat you up. Guess what, MSU turned those tables on us. BYU didn't even try. It was the reason Chattanooga got more pressure on us than BYU (in addition to blitzing over known weak spots, such as R guard).

quote:If the refs are "letting them play", it's on the WR. Getting off the line and running your route, on time, is the WRs responsibility and as stated above just screws the QB all up. It was an issue with Chi last year. He just wasn't physical enough. It's an issue this year with the physicality, size, and taking plays off of some of the WRs.
Also look at the outside receiver on that gif, how is it legal for the corner back to literally lock on to the receiver and force him out of bounds. Guy couldnt even run his route

yea, Etling isn't the problem. Most people on this board realize that.

Danny is a guy we could win with under different circumstances. I don't think he will ever be the guy to carry the team to a big come from behind win, but he generally makes good decisions and doesn't turn the ball over.
The problem is he has zero help from his line and receivers.

There were quite a few bad throws last week
Operating from under center makes the QB turn his back to the receivers and Etling along with most college QB's take more time to find targets and make the throw
Most people on the board confuse the spread offense and pro style. You can run a pro style offense with the QB in the shotgun formation and have a run/pass ratio to suite the game. The shotgun formation allows the QB to see the play develop and also get the ball off quicker beating the pressure.
With our offensive line we will fight all year pressure defenses and now every coach we face will use the Miss St as a blueprint. Nick is licking his chops

Etling is a "gamer." He works hard and plays hard. Only gripe I have from Sat. game is he NEVER once tried to keep the defense honest w a run. At least show the opposition you are willing to run. Other than that he did what he could. He had some really nice throws and probably should have had double the passing yardage he was credited with. He was not the issue last Sat. night. That is a a ray of purple sunshine.....
