For over a week after the breach. These are the music majors that own everything about your life.

Add another "oops" to Equifax's pile. For more than a week, company representatives have been directing consumers to a fake phishing site instead of to one maintained by the credit-reporting agency, according to a new report by The Verge.
quote:
The site — securityequifax2017.com — was created by a software developer to show how easy it would be to spoof the webpage Equifax created to inform consumers about its recent massive security breach, according to the report.
The site Equifax set up is equifaxsecurity2017.com.
"I made the site because Equifax made a huge mistake by using a domain that doesn't have any trust attached to it" as opposed to hosting it on equifax.com, Nick Sweeting, who created the spoof page, told The Verge. "It makes it ridiculously easy for scammers to come in and build clones — they can buy up dozens of domains, and typo-squat to get people to type in their info."

The company did not provide an explanation for how it made such an obvious mistake, particularly at a time when its practices were already under the spotlight.

Clown shoes. How do these people get into positions of authority at big companies like this?
Posted on 9/21/17 at 7:33 am to TejasHorn
These people belong in prison.

They first need to be neutered. Without anesthesia

She was probably an auditor or risk analyst of some sort before she was CISO. Some big corps still think this is the same as actual cybersecurity. Those are the big corps that get raped by APTs.
You can't checklist your way to a secure network.
ETA: In fact, there's no such thing as a secure network. You will get breached. The key is how fast you detect it, and how you respond. Equifax failed at the former, and EPIC failed at the latter.

Some of this has to be worthy of jail time.
If they were any more incompetent, they'd be mayor of a major Louisiana city.

Ding Ding Ding.....they put a lot more faith in lists, preparation, and certs than they do in detecting threats/breaches and then dealing with them. You couldn't be more spot on. I hope that these big breaches are starting to turn larger companies the other way but I doubt it.

Waiters get fired for Tweeting out customers' names but Equifax exposes millions of customers' complete identifying information and ain't shite gonna happen.

-Data breach happens months before the date Equifax told us
-Data breach also includes payroll data in addition to the other data stolen
-Equifax execs sell stock after hack but before the public was informed
-Equifax sends people to spoof website, putting customers at even further risk for data theft
Someone belongs in jail.

is this the *ONLY* time the entire OT has come together and been universally pissed?
Usually the response is "oh i don't shop at target you losers deserve to have your info stolen"
or "only losers use bank X and i would never allow myself to be a victim of identify theft because i use product xyz"
not so fast in this case...

Equifax has lost ~30% of their market cap, or $5.5B, since the breach.
