Bay view vs resort view
Bay view is renovated rooms and @$100 per night
Anyone stayed in the renovated vs old rooms?

Stayed in the marina building 2 weeks ago. Rooms were renovated. Nothing spectacular but better than before. Big TV, new beds, carpet, new bathroom tile and sinks. Rooms are more of the contemporary style. We stay in in the marina building because it's close to the pool for our kids.

We stayed in a renovated room a couple months ago. It was more swanky looking, but didn't exactly feel like we were at the Grand. More like something you would see in a downtown setting. The plus side is we were close to the main lobby building for things near there, but farther away from the pool. I've never stayed in a Bay View room, always resort view or in the spa building. To me, the view doesn't matter much. You're not spending a ton of time in the room. What building you are in and how close it is to the things you will be doing matters more, because it is a large property you'll be walking across.
The main plus to the renovated room to me was coffee. They all have a Keurig machine, where the older rooms may still have an old hotel style coffee machine. You can still walk to the lobby every morning for free coffee.
ETA: This was our 4th or 5th trip down there. Last year we were in the Marina Building. Right next to the pool. Which was great. Back in June we were in the south Bay House, so closer to restaurants, lobby area, cannon firing etc. I'd pick the pool over any of that if you have small kids.

Ages ago we stayed there shortly after it reopened and were shocked that the bill included an unannounced 30% gratuity for all the things we might have done (but didn't) but it was on just because.
That's the reason we never went back.

That's how my dad felt too. He stayed for some conference he was part of. Enjoyed the place but said it was geared more towards family vacations. He wasn't going to take advantage of kayaks and bikes like we do. There should be an option for folks that just want a nice room and pool.

Bay view, north bay house is our preference. Can walk to main house if it's raining without going outside. Also in between pool and main house so location is the best imo.
If you opt for the spa building I'd go resort view to save $$. Bay view from the spa is not great

I think that's the only one we haven't stayed in. But we are RSA members and only go when the special member rates are offered. I guess that one usually fills up. We did get a free upgrade back in June. I think we were scheduled to stay in the older rooms, but our room wasn't ready so we got a renovated room at no extra.

It's a great view. Mossy oaks right outside the window with a great sunset over the bay

With a mint julep, sitting on one of the rocking chairs, on the ground floor. I'm going to have to stay in one of those next year.

The old rooms suck. It will feel like you are sleeping in the bathroom after a hot shower. Everything is damp.
The renovated rooms are solid. I prefer the spa building.

old building rooms are dingy imo. stayed in marina couple of weeks ago and rooms were nice. great property but overpriced. view is rather meaningless unless you like looking at brown water
