If you want one of the highest rated ones and you are in BR go to goodwood and get rockwood. It's what I use in my smoker. Comes in 20lb bags and is about $22 or so. It's all Missouri hardwood. It produces very little ash and most of it is big chunks so it has a good burn time. Wicked is also pretty good.
Also, do not spend the money on the green egg lump, it's royal oak.

First time smoker here. Are there certain types/brands that are better for lasting longer and keeping a constant temperature?
You're going to need wood also.

ETA: Also, avoid Cowboy lump charcoal at all costs. Stuff is garbage.
Listen to this advice. Everyone gets tempted when they see that $6.99 bag at rouses, but trust me it's not worth it.

Kingstord Blue and a chimney starter. Once they ash up, put a few hickory chunks and your good to go.

Yep.
You want your charcoal to burn clean. And if it's burning clean it want impart much of a smoke flavor. That's where the wood comes in.
Here's my preferences:
Brisket - oak
Pork shoulders - hickory
Ribs - oak or pecan of even a 50:50 mix
Chicken - pecan

Am I the only one who only uses wood if I am smoking in an offset? No charcoal. Something about straight wood. I dunno. Hate using charcoal.

I stock up on the 2 for 1 packs every Memorial/4th/Labor Day.
Same here, I'm down to my last bag too.

I use a lot of Kingsford Blue Bag for grilling because it is cheap when you get the 2-fer holiday deals.
Stubbs and Weber both make an excellent charcoal that I like to use for long smokes. They cost more, but I think they burn longer than KBB. You can usually find them at Lowes.
