One part of the money equation that doesn't get brought up often is that there's no conference TV rights. The host of the game can bid it out, and pass the extra revenue stream to the school.
I'm not sure how many other schools do this, but LSU puts up billboards in the city to welcome the team and fans. Houston area recruits will see LSU billboards for a month that LSU wouldn't have an excuse to put up otherwise.
