beer sales
sponsorship payouts - probably equate to a bowl game
exposure in different geographical regions (atl, dallas, houston)

OSU's recruiting group has straight up said they will play teams in either home and home or neutral sites where they can get a recruiting advantage. They said Bama isn't on their list because that isn't a recruiting bed they feel they can really get in on as of now, so they aren't on the home/home scene.

Neutral site games > home/home series

Don't they still owe a home game to LSU for the Katrina Les working at McDonald's Headset game?
ETA:
Doesn't Washington and WVU still owe games also?

I like them. It creates bigger TV matchups in week 1. Usually a holiday weekend, so we end up getting football from Thursday night to Monday night. The point is to make money. Both teams come out better than a home game. They get a fat paycheck and don't have to hire stadium crews, security, etc. It puts a great product on TV with no NFL competition that week. By late August everyone is tired of the offseason and the viewers for these games will be massive. So you miss one home game at the start of the year. So travel to the neutral site if you can (like Bama/FSU in ATL, UL/Purdue in Indy, BYU/LSU in Houston) and if not then stay home and enjoy wall to wall CFB on Saturday.

I love neutral sites as a fan. When I worked in CFB I hated travelling just because of all the stuff we had to take and the pre stuff (hotels, food, walk through, locker room fix, etc) we had to do. It is easier for the players to play it always seemed like due to less distractions. It is much easier to control the environment before a game on the road, or it was for us.

Both are good. UW played at LSU in 2012 and LSU played in Seattle in 2009.
WVU played at LSU in 2010 and LSU went there in 2011.

You know that's going to be moved to a neutral site.

Maybe I'm just old school, but I like the college gameday atmosphere on a campus. LSU and Wisconsin would've been a great home-and-home, since those two environments are two of the best.

I do not remember WVU coming to Baton Rouge at all. Guess I am senile or something. Thank you for the answer though.
Was the Fresno game a fill in game in 07?

They did. I lost a friend that night in a car accident. Remember the four Vandebilt students that died when the truck they were in flipped off the road and into a canal? That was that night.

Not sure honestly how that deal worked out.

They both played in Tiger Stadium... West Virginia in 2010 and Washington in 2012.

It's a good idea if it keeps the venues fresh for the fans
LSU going to Houston every year is just lame.

I do agree with this, although it's not quite at that point yet, this will just be the second Houston kick-off game, next year vs. Miami will be three for Dallas, and they did one in Atlanta vs. UNC.
Eventually though, Houston or Dallas every other year will get a bit stale... and Atlanta isn't much better.
Lambeau was awesome, even though I wasn't able to go.
Would love to see LSU playing big games in places like Soldier Field, Arrowhead, NY's football stadium, Washington DC.

I guess it's hard to sell Death Valley as a tough place to play when the toughest non-conference game is Troy and Syracuse and Alabama beats our arse every time they come.

I actually liked what Georgia Tech and Auburn had originally planned to do, which was to play a 3 game series from 2003-2005 with the 3rd game being at the Georgia Dome. For whatever reason (there were several various reasons that were given at different times so I can't really remember what the real reason was), the 3rd game was cut out and they just played the home and home in 2003 and 2005. The ironic thing about it is that had they played that game in 2004, then the whole BCS controversy may have been avoided. With a win, Auburn's schedule may have been considered strong enough to bump them into the championship game. Or they would have lost to Tech and it would have been a moot point anyways.

Yea it's always made me laugh somebody thinks some kid from Texas is going to go to Auburn (just an example) because they once played a game near a city he lives in.
