What a colossal waste and a boondoggle to boot. Spend a gazilllion dollars on a new interstate highway when old roads and bridges are falling apart, there are multiple interstates already connecting those areas, and many more people would be better served by intelligent transit options.

I want Hyperloop...now.

I suppose that's why the military locations are in the map. It's a strategic military route in addition to helping to unclog I-10 and I-20.
On a side note, what is with that chunk of abandoned freeway north of Shreveport on I-49?

Love this area, but I can't wait until I leave.

Not sure. Haven't been up that way in years. Last time I went up there, I-49 ended at I-20, but they were supposedly working on the extension north into Arkansas. From Google maps it looks like they haven't built the section that would connect I-49 that currently ends at I-20 to the new section that goes north to Arky.

you're in killeen. i understand.
for reals, not knowing your situation, if you're single, this area is miserable. i get it. if you have a family (in Belton or Temple) it's a sucking hole and you'll never leave no matter how hard you try.

Never thought I'd live to see the day this was even a possibility. The Lord works in mysterious ways y'all. God bless.

Is this a military highway?

It'd be good for natchez too with all the river traffic. Combine that with the railways and they may be able to get some decent shipping jobs in the area.

No, but I think that is how they got the funds for it.
If we were ever to get invaded, this interstate would be a pretty high speed avenue of approach for the good guys.

Does anyone have any inside info on this?
The 14 designation isn't random; it's in reference to the 14th amendment.

That brings no value. I-20 and 1-10 cover those areas. A speed rail from NYC to Houston is needed. It would be nice to hop on a train and do 200 mph for a weekend trip to NOLA.

shite we're having trouble finishing an interstate in I 49 that's been in the works for god knows how long.
My favorite thing about "Future corridor I-49" is the new traffic lights they've installed between Lafayette and New Iberia. Nothing says future interstate like a turning lane.

A speed rail from NYC to Houston has no business going through New Orleans.

You talking about a major coastal city on the gulf coast?

Also would be cool to hop on a rocket ship and check out Mars for a 3-4 day getaway

it amazes me that the majority of the interstate system was complete in 25 years, or the same amount of time the "futire corridor i49" signs started going up.

I-10 and I-20 are overburdened. A new highway would relieve pressure from both. It might even make BR's traffic woes marginally better. But I'll believe this thing getting built when I see it.

Yeah I can see a lot of good to this. Austin/Jackson ms/Birmingham all stand to benefit greatly.

Why? it would take a bunch of traffic off of I-10 and I-20
