re: Will 1 full season be enough to know if coaching change was the right move?

Some are placing high expectations expecting O to fail so they can say they were right all along.
Some are hedging their bets, saying not to expect a great season and to give O time.
I say we have a very good if not great season. 10-2 at a minimum and maybe 11-1. Throw in a NY6. Put it all down and let it ride.
I was worried about youth at WR, but adding Stevens to the mix makes it much more potent. I am concerned about OL depth, but the offensive scheme will allow less physically developed and younger OL to be effective. I was worried about depth behind Guice, but I think CEH will be an X-factor and maybe even get on the field with Guice. I am not worried about Etling because this O will play to his strengths. He's also healthy and throwing better. I was worried about losing Adams and Tre White, but we have some great depth. I am not worried about losing Beckwith (loved him, great player) because White is a stud and intimidator and will make this D nasty.
So there you have it. Sit back and enjoy the ride.
Downvote away. I don't care. I'm going to enjoy this season.

No, one full season is probably not going be enough to know if it's the right move, but I think it might be enough to know it's the wrong move.

We play at Florida, Bama, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Probably one of the tougher schedules we've had in a while.
And how many key players are we losing? Etling, Guice, Key...who else? OP expects 10-2...possible but it'll be tough.
Eta...not to mention a OL that will be shaky still.

I expect 8-4, Aranda leaving, followed by 6-6 and a firing. We've got 3 oline starters hurt right now and zero depth. Doesn't bode well.

Wtf? I agree change was the right move, but how tf does that mean it doesn't matter what O does? So they could have hired me as HC just BC a change was
That's not what I'm saying. I'm saying a coaching change was needed. Why does it matter what Orgeron does? Not sure how anyone could disagree.
Now if you're claiming we fired Miles to hire Orgeron, that would be a different story. But you say in your first sentence that change was needed. So you agree with me. What's with the rest of your post?

Usually, judgement is held off until the new coach has a few years to get his recruited players and system in place. Will O get this same courtesy if the season ends 8-4 or worse?
O can't help what he inherited, which is a team with serious deficiencies of talent and depth across many areas of the team. It's easier to list the areas that aren't a problem than to list the ones that are. That can only be fixed with recruiting, and that doesn't happen in one year.

I am expecting 8-4 this year and 10+ wins next year and do think the coaching change was a good move.
I have no idea what our record will be this year or next, nor can I make any reasonable prediction of O's tenure in general. I agree wholeheartedly that a change was necessary.

you have to be kidding.
in the last 4 years we had 1 class outside the top 4.
less than a year ago the theme was," miles is underachieving with all this talent and Miles is the only thing holding lsu back from going on a bama type run" and now all the sudden we have serious issues with talent.
O inherited a program literred with blue chip prospect.
also, o has been the recruiting coordinator since 2015.

Honesty. Until Saban retires, the SEC West mostly belongs to Alabama. Apologies to the Bear, but he is their GOAT HC, and about the best anybody in this era has seen.
Which is to say: We need to chase Bama/Saban but keep our expectations in perspective if we don't catch them every time. Plus there are a few other pretty good SEC programs out there running with us, or chasing us too. .

After we go 14 and 1 with a win over Bama and a National Championship, I say yes.

I haven't read the thread but the answer is no

No. O still has effects of Miles total lack of QB recruitment to deal with. For now I'm looking at 1) has our play calling improved 2) do we recruit with the best of the SEC. I'll judge him on record by year 3.

We will be able to tell if it was a bad hire in year 1. A good hire can't be proven until several years and we see how the OC/DC coaches last.
Posted on 8/13/17 at 7:53 am to 1609tiger
He won't be here for 3 seasons. He will have a bad year, then we will have a 15th ranked class full of 3 stars, and it will be a domino effect. Aranda will be somewhere else next season too.

Why does it matter what Orgeron does?
I don't know about you, but I would much rather O be successful as opposed to a complete failure as at Mississippi. I would rather LSU be ranked in the top 10 or top 20 as opposed to being unranked. I would rather ten win season than 7,8, or 9 win seasons.
This, its better to lose than win with Les is dumb as dirt. As soon as we start to think that it cant be worse, we often find out that it can be.
A change was best, but to think it doesn't matter how that change works out is just dumb.

The coaching change was the right move, but it will take a couple or three years to see if O can get us back to elite status.

Top 5 talent in the country; top paid co-ordinaries; no excusies

There was NOT a "conga line" of Athletic Directors pushing each other out of the way to hire Miles as their HC. A week DID IN FACT pass by after Miles got fired without Miles being hired by a National Championship seeking AD looking for a football coach. And we know that the NFL had no interest in hiring Miles in any capacity.
No one wanted the guy LSU did hire.
