Beth is an awful, awful mother.

The show shits on everything

Man last week's episode was decent, but lacking. This one was just bad.

They do need to build up Beth's relationship with her kids. It's just ridiculous how neglectful she is of them.
I could see them doing another reset, but this time Rick and Morty drag Summer along and leave Beth and Jerry behind.

I loved all of Rick's scenes so far this season. Die Hard tribute was on point.
The therapy was just stupid. It's not funny or well written drama it's just bad. Like terribly bad. There was a 2 minute uncut lecture by the Asian therapist just spewing nonsense. What was the point of that?
I don't care about the new female writer working through her family issues on this show. Rick has been great this season but the rest of the show if suffering. Rick barely interacted with Morty at all. Seriously they're almost never even in the same scenes anymore. Jerry is gone. Beth is just being a bitch for no reason other than filling air time. Summer is a miserabel count. They changed the dynamic of almost every relationship and character on the show.
And the end of the episode car ride was just bad.
But the preview for next week's episode looks like it's getting back on track with an adventure with just Rick and Morty and some new goofy characters.

I think the last 3 episodes have been some of the strongest they have ever done. They are not the 3 best but they are all solid A to B+ episodes. This show has always been good at mixing comedy and a little drama, Friday I watched the Rick Potion #9 episode from the first season that ends with Rick and Morty burying the versions of themselves that died on their current world and that Mazzy Star song playing and how it messed Morty up.
Clearly Beth and Jerry seperating and the effect that has on everyone is going to be the main thru line of this season. I don't think it is because their are women writers now. Although, they certainly hired women writers to be able to better write the female pov. It is what Dan Harmon wants the show to be about this season.

The action scenes were fun, but I agree about the therapy scenes. I don't agree that it was word salad, and Rick has obviously fricked Beth up, but I think it's irritating that they felt the need to have a monologue about it.

You can tell a chick wrote these past two episodes. The best episode of the series, to me, was Auto Erotic Assimilation. It showed Rick in a very different side at the end and was very emotional. Ryan Ridley wrote that episode and was able to tie it all in together. It was very touching in a way. These last two episodes were really just out of place in my opinion. They had no real purpose. You have to keep the god damn sci-fi in the show and this last episode completely said, "f you, sci-fi. This is about emotions."

Women wrote the the last 2 episodes. And are credited with the writing of the next episode. The 2nd episode of the season heavily featured Summer and had a boring dealing with divorce monologue at the end.
The last episode heavily featured Beth in therapy with a monologue at the end.
They've certainly changed the dynamic of the show. We can argue whether that's for better or for worse but I think it's pretty clear that they've changed the show.
The show was founded on the scifi adventures of Rick and Morty.
The last two episodes completely abandoned that.

I agree with everything Monty said above me. Read his post.

I'm hoping it's just a character arc for Rick to see he needs to be more human, only for the world to get destroyed around him and he has to escape to another universe leaving this Beth that he did so much work with.
Basically the writers showing he's not a complete sociopath, but anyone with his knowledge and experiences is just not going to fit in as a regular member of society.
