That's what I never understood - tactically speaking why would you accept the yoke of this bill when you could pass it off to your frenemy Paul Ryan and ratchet up the populist disgust among your base?

Trump could have had a win/win personally if he'd played a wiser hand. Instead he publicly went all in with a clearly weak hand and looks ineffective now.

because he promised an uneducated voter base he was gonna drain the swamp when he's really just trying to pad he and his friends pockets.

You're right on both accounts, Hillary and her sycophants would not have stopped until he was ruined, of course she would have plunged America in to dictatorship lite with a stacked SCOTUS and a pansy arse congress. She would have EO everything with no opposition, so Trump would just be the lead casualty among us all.

Trump could have let the cuck republicans own the failure, but instead tried to reach out to wolves in sheeps clothing, with the wrong assumption that they wanted to right the ship. His intentions were good, but he should have strategized as if they were the opposition from the start. Any outsider would be in this spot. The only silver lining is that he needs to see the elitist for who they truly are moving forward. Shut the government down and make hella cuts, frick the cucks, they don't have our presidents best interest anyways. It's time to lay down some party discipline on these spineless pussies.

because now he can say "I supported your crap bills and you still couldn't pass it so now repeal it and figure it out."

How could he possibly have pushed for what is needed with the 15 or so swish moderate Republicans in the Senate?

Tax reform and infrastructure should have been first. It was a strategic blunder.

He didn't read them or take the time to learn what was in them. He was only interested in passing something he could claim as a legislative win.

Frankly, because Trump fricked it up.

I mean. I'm sure there's a longer way to say it. But there it is

flush out the GOP cucks so he could primary them.

He meets regularly with the freedom caucus. They are part of the dog and pony show. He knows/controls what they are doing. It allows him to play nice with the cucks and see who is legit and who is stupid enough to want to continue obamacare.

1. He is not tied ideologically to the true path on healthcare, which is the removal of government intervention.

2. Healthcare is seen as needing to be done in order to get tax reform done.

3. It is such a contentious issue that the only possible way for it to happen is with strong support from him.

Did not give rats arse as to implications of particular bill.

He was twisting arms re first version. Threatened to primary people.

First, I completely agree, both versions were crap and weak attempts at actual reform.

I think he supported the bills because in a sense it's a no lose game for him with his base and the ACA is very much disliked legislation. If they do pass reform, any at all, he gets the win for doing something to Obamacare. If they don't pass after he's thrown his full weight of support behind the efforts, called members of congress to a joint meeting with him, praised those responsible for making the efforts, it's seen as their fault, not his and opens the door for them to be primaried in mid-terms. Personally I think that's a dangerous game to maintain republican majority, but at the same time it may be an efficient way to drain the swamp of establishment republicans, if only marginally.

He's a businessman. He has a documented ego, which ALL successful people on his level of business and politics now, have whether or not you see it publicly. He values winning and results. Healthcare was probably seen as the easiest victory through congress, so he started there to build momentum and support. How many times did republicans vote to repeal the ACA under Obama, when it didn't matter? He's played their game against them and allowed the republicans to hang themselves.

This failure at repeal rests with congress not him. Either way, he's won something.

Because Trump doesn't care about the ideology or what's actually in the bill. All he cares about is checking off another campaign promise.

Repeal and replace obamacare - check

Because he does not give a sh*t about governing. All he did to get the right wing vote was to lie and sling sh*t. And most of you on this board bought it...LOL

You ask this as if you believe he understood any of the working parts. Lol

Zero background in government or in healthcare. And you're gonna belly up to the pulpit and fix one of the most complicated (or at least massive) legislative reforms ever?

Maybe all of this nonsense causes them to stop talk "repeal and replace" and start trying to compromise and tweak it to improve it. The Dems passed something. If Trump wasn't the guy in the WH maybe they could pass something too.

You guys all clamor at how he is "playing the MSM". His tweets and blurbs he gives the Press cause chaos for regular politicians. Some of these folks are in areas where they can be flipped out of office in a cycle by getting onboard with something Trump tweets on a Tuesday because he thinks his poop is golden eggs.

Because he's never had a specific vision or solution for the healthcare debate. We all kind of laughed it off when all he could say was erase the lines between states, but the guy clearly doesn't have any original thoughts on the topic at hand.

So he just latches on to whatever is up for a vote hoping that something will pick up positive momentum. He's got a short memory so I don't think he contemplates how this cycle erodes his mandate to fix it.
