In Her First Act As A Disney Legend, Whoopi Goldberg Tells Disney To Stop Hiding Its History
quote:
Whoopi Goldberg was named a Disney Legend at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California yesterday, and she made the most of the opportunity by telling a news reporter that she wants the Walt Disney Company to make available its groundbreaking 1946 effort, Song of the South.
quote:
she goes on to say that she wanted to see new merchandise featuring the jive-talking crows from Disney’s 1941 classic Dumbo. “I want people to start putting the crows in the merchandise, because those crows sing the song in Dumbo that everybody remembers [“When I See an Elephant Fly”]. I want to highlight all the little stuff people sort of maybe miss in movies.”

I don't like Whoopi Goldberg, but I wouldn't mind that. Those were some jive crows. I'd wear it.

I love Song of the South. Would love to see a blu-ray release.

Disney has continued to make Song of the South available in foreign countries
And why is Whoopie a legend? Or specifically a Disney one? Was she Pinocchio?
I've seen her tales on The View.

Is Whoopi gay. I thought all Disney people were gay. Whoopi is very racist, so I'd expect that to be her thing with them...

She has dated Ted Danson and Frank Langella so probably not gay or racist.

Disney gives legend status to people who were involved with the properties that they now own, as well as their subsidiary studios. This year they honored Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher.
I'm sure that Whoopi has done some Touchstone pictures, she also did Disney voices (Lion King), and hosts The View on Disney's ABC network.

They are really cheapening the Legend moniker giving it to someone whose biggest Disney contribution is a few lines from a bit side character in Lion King.
I mean, she got in along with Mark Hamil and Cerrie Fischer, who were the faces of a multi billion dollar franchise spanning generations, and Stan Lee and Kirby who were the brains behind another multi billion dollar franchise spanning generations.
Not that Goldberg hasn't done good things, or that she isn't right here....But being a Disney Legend is being associated at least with an ironic role, I.e. Robin Williams as Genie. All of his other Disney movies just sweetens the pot.
