He has legit NBA potential.

Could easily see him being a spark plug off the bench in his early NBA career.

I've followed him in every Bulls SL game so far and he has impressed me.

Gotta wonder how his career at LSU would've turned out if that team wasn't ruined by Johnny Jones.

he can handle the ball well for a SG,
what? He's below average for NBA sg. He has not looked good handling the ball under pressure in the 2nd to last summer league game.

I don't think he was comparing them as much as pointing out that those players that were great in college improved on that when they got to the league played with better players beside them in a more open game. College basketball and NBA are completely different games. In the NBA you he will mostly face man to man and he won't be asked to be the guy and will be open a lot.

I hope he catches on with a team... does anyone know if he signed one of the new two way contracts for the G-League (Gatorade League former Developmental League)... each NBA team can sign two players for up to two years as long as they have less than 3 years of experience (including G-League). They get 75K for the year which compares to 25k for other G-League players and they don't count towards the 15 players on the NBA roster. They can be brought up and down but after I think 42 days of service time they have to be added to the NBA roster... If they are brought up they get prorated NBA minimum... This is the first year this two way contract is in existence and it will really help borderline players as the NBA team keeps your rights and has some amount of flexibility and desire to develop your game... Bulls would be a good spot for Blakeney as would like the Mavericks or even the Lakers...

a Cody Worsham article on Tigerrag last month

quote:

Blakeney performed well as a primary option with little offense created for him, knocking down 41.4 percent of his shots off the dribble per Synergy Sports – second in the SEC only to likely lottery pick Malik Monk.

That off-the-bounce figure improved to an SEC-best and top-10 nationally 55 percent in spot up situations – those came infrequently in a system in which Blakeney was the primary creative force. That Blakeney got just 16 uncontested looks all year (he hit 10 of them, good for an SEC-best 62.5 percent on such attempts)

The coaching is better and the spacing on the floor is better.

Also, they have much, much more time to get repetitions and hone their craft. One much isn't enough to explain that.

He has the athletic traits to support what he does well. I wanted to see him handle it more (which apparently didn't happen last year) I know they told him he'd play some point. Could be a more gifted (scoring wise) Keyon Dooling type.

All that stat looking up is worthless. Name another player on Curry's team at Davidson, or Lillard for Weber State, or McCullum at Lehigh. Those dudes had Box and 1 defenses thrown at them. Over half of their 3-point attempts were from NBA range because that was the only way they could get a clean look. On top of that, they were asked to shoot 25 times a game.

It's not like Blakeney took clean and efficient shots playing in a Johnny Jones offense with zero other NBA players...Nobody is saying he is those players, but there's reason to believe he could shoot a better percentage in the league.

Blakeney shot nearly 36% from three his sophomore year of college. By comparison Stephen Curry shot 38% his junior year at Davidson, Klay Thompson shot 36% his sophomore year at Washington State,CJ McCollum shot 34% his junior year at Lehigh, and Damian Lillard shot 34% his sophomore year at Weber State. Understand that people who are already good shooters in college BECOME BETTER SHOOTERS IN THE NBA. The coaching is better and the spacing on the floor is better.

Exactly. Some "fans" just like to shite on former players just because.

Yep. Blakeney will have the jump shot to be successful. How has his defense looked in the summer league early on?

I remember a scout comparing him to Jamal Crawford coming out of high school. Thought that was pretty accurate in terms of playing style. His rebounding numbers are really standing out to me. If he can grab 5 or 6 per 36 in the NBA and knock down open 3s he can be an asset. He's still way behind the curve as a defender, particularly off the ball, but that's all coaching.

Yea he can crash the boards. Recall him having a couple good rebounding games here in 15/16.
