Out of all the states, Louisiana is the only state that blocks dealers from sharing vehicle invoices. They say that the invoice values deceive customers (wtf?)

Are you by chance looking for invoice prices in Lousiana? If so, please note that Louisiana regulators asked Edmunds.com not to display invoice pricing for Louisiana ZIP Codes because of concerns that “invoice price” can be a misleading concept.

Go ask car dealers what they think of the Tesla business model. Prepare for a rant.

Buying a car should not be a all day thing

I don't know did you sign your 84 month note at 6% APR at a dealership in Louisiana
Posted on 7/7/17 at 10:26 am to fareplay
Yes. They are a ripoff. You can save thousands of dollars buying vehicles out of state.

To be fair, invoices are deceiving. Invoice is not the dealers cost. And invoices are falsely elevated to make you think you got a good deal

ive asked for invoices all the time and every time theyve printed it out and shown me

If Tesla would follow the laws of the Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission they would not have a problem with them.

The problem is how corruption within the state fricks everyone over

Yep. The invoice thing is a damn fine joke. I have to laugh at people who say they got a car at 2% above invoice or whatever.
The dealership gets rebates and other discounts off of that made up invoice number

I usually buy out of state, but many local dealers are just as happy to give you their best price over phone or via email. They know they only have a short window to gain your business or you're going elsewhere. Once you are on their showroom floor they have an advantage. Last car I bought was out of Dallas. A Denham dealership gave me the same price, or maybe even a tad better, but they didn't have the color my kid wanted. Got to that price over just a couple emails/phone calls.

Like what laws?
The law that says you can't buy direct from the factory?

mother in law got a good deal on a used car. I was with her. We negotiated the price, checked the credit and did all the crap. Dealer comes back and there is this $1200 cleaning and safety fee. I ask them to remove it and they say they can't. I ask them to break the fee down for me and they explain that is the cost to check the car and ensure it's safety and such. The cost to pay the guys to work on it.
I pull out a piece of paper and work out a value showing that is pretty much the labor cost to pull an engine or rebuild a transmission.
I tell mother in law "let's go" she decides she really wants car and over rules me. I mean why even have me along to make sure you don't get screwed when you overrule me?
Anyway. She got car. Paid $1200 for a car wash for it too.

Yes, that law. Why should they be able to be sell in Louisiana without a dealers license when every other manufacturer has to have one? Just build 1 facility somewhere in Louisiana, apply for the dealer license, and ship everything there.

That was great man, thanks!

Now if you do get a car at or near "invoice" you did probably get a good deal. Its a decent barometer, nothing more.
