We've just had 3 decommits from this year's class. I'm not sure how you can put much stock in next year's class. That's a year and a half away

Are you agreeing with the guy I replied to and saying you are being "honest you can clearly see that talent level has and is falling off considerably. Especially in the offensive and defensive lines"?

I could have also have listed the players like Tyler Shelvin, K'Lavon Chaisson, Neil Farrell, etc on defense and Austin Deculus, Edward Ingram, Saahdiq Charles on offense that helped LSU achieve the #7 ranked recruiting class in the nation last year. They have all signed.

I mean, yeah? Firing the coach at midseason last year didn't alert you of this? We've been under performing for 3-4 years. This is a transition year. Year 0, if you will.

I don't like it any more than you do but I do find it liberating to not be delusional about my national title hopes going into the year.

LSU has plenty of talent and some brilliant coaches on both sides of the ball. If they do go on a run I won't be surprised but I'm not expecting it either. Different than last year's expectations, which is a bit more stressful.

I just was just pointing out the uncertainty of recruiting the next two classes at this point. I guess I should've made that clearer. I never have been a huge follower of recruiting, but it does seem like we are getting an awful lot of 3 stars in this class. Could be in positions of need I know.

Also seems like we weren't getting overly excited about recruits that are top 20 at their position. I seem to remember getting the top 10 guys. Again, if I'm wrong, that's fine too. Just my opinion, but who the hell am I?

I'm not disagreeing with you here. One would think that if a coach gets fired for not meeting expectations based on talent, then the new coach SHOULD be better and able to be in that championship picture.

Then I remember LSU hired a DL Coach with no other head coaching offers.

We also lost a lot of upperclassmen though. The reason for the optimism last year was we had stopped the talent drain to the NFL and finally had a veteran group coming back. Then we squandered it.

I am not tempering my expectations because I feel that O is incapable (though that's certainly possible and I understand your pessimism if you feel that way); I am tempering them mainly because I think he's working with a relatively unproven bunch of guys.

Extremy fair assessment. I don't think it can be said much better than that.

2012:
10-3 record AP #14 Coaches 12

2013:
10-3 record AP #14 Coaches 14

2014:
8-4 record AP #23 Coaches Not Ranked

2015:
9-3 record AP #16 Coaches 17

During these years that LSU didn't sniff being in the final top 10 rankings, these SEC schools finished top 10 in one or both polls - Ole Miss (2 years), Mississippi State, Auburn, South Carolina (2 years), Missouri, Georgia, Texas A&M, Florida and of course Alabama. Every team in the SEC West has finished in the top 10 beginning with the 2012 season except LSU and Arkansas.

LSU hasn't slipped they dropped in 2012 and have never recovered.

And people want to say that Mainieri is just like Miles. Another one of those "Only on the Rant" things.

And how many of those years did LSU lose to Arkansas? I'm lazy and don't feel like looking it up. Seems like it was fairly even as far as wins and losses. Some of the scores may have been a bit lopsided.

Great RB, excellent OL, good defense, and a Senior QB should equal 11-2!

Talking football ?

Losses to Florida, Alabama, and likely Tennessee or Arkansas.

I'll buy 9-3 .

What I find amusing is the revisionist memory of Rantards. They talk shite to the 9 teams listed above especially Ole Miss, Miss St, A&M and Florida like LSU is some BIG BAD DOG from the West.

Hell LSU can't even talk shite to Arkansas after losing two in a row in 2014 and 2015 to them. The only SEC teams LSU fans can talk shite to are Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Tennessee. The last 5 years every other team has been better than LSU, having finished in the final top 10. Pretty sad

You can probably add A&M to this list

A&M hasn't beaten LSU since they joined the SEC.

My statement was based on them finishing in the top 10 since 2012.

But this is what you said. Just because they finished in the top 10 in a particular season doesn't mean they've been better than LSU the last 5 years. Especially when they haven't beaten us.

ETA: And would you trade any of our last 5 seasons for going 5-7, as Ole Miss did last year. And Mississippi State, lol.

No, but I would realize that both teams have finished ranked in the top 10. Ole Miss did it twice. LSU hasn't done it in the same 5 year time frame. LSU hasn't been as great since 2012 as some LSU fans think they have.

Mississippi State finished 5-7 last year? That makes the 3 point win at home by LSU seem that much worse. LSU scored 0 points in the 2nd half and Miss St scored 17.

No, Ole Miss did. I was just lol'ing at thinking MSU has been better than LSU the last 5 years. But, I do agree that we haven't been as good as some may think. You pointing out we haven't finished in the top 10 the last 5 seasons exposes that. Our worst season the last 5 years was what, 8 wins? Let's also keep in mind that OM will more than likely be getting the hammer from the NCAA in the near future for what they've done in recruiting the last 5 years.

ETA: Even Auburn and Florida have had seasons with less than 8 wins in the last 5 years... I would say that the only team that's been clearly more successful than LSU the last 5 years is Bama. LSU has been consistently good, while the others besides Bama have had some higher highs, but lower lows.

I think that this is a fair point, however maybe change the wording to LSU has consistently sucked less often than the other teams.

**I do say this a bit tongue in cheek. Obviously, things could be worse and we don't want to be compared to the likes of Arky, the Miss schools and aTm.**
