Might makes right in this world.
Go to court and beat the cop's arse when he shows up. If he doesn't show, insist that the court enters it into the record that he's a lying pussy.

If it is in St. George, just go to court and tell the DA that you are poor, a good person, and can't pay. I did that while I was in college and my white privilege caused him to take away the ticket. I was also the only one there in a suit.

I was driving home (3 mph below speed limit) and got to the stop sign then turned onto the street.
And what is this, "Apparently it was for 'Failure to stop?'"
Not seeing what there is to fight. Pay up.

Nah. I am not going to fight with a cop. I will speak to an attorney if going to court will make the situation better.
My fear is that if I go to court and lose, I might have to pay a larger fine (court fees,etc.).
Honestly, if I can just get a lesser sentence that would be enough for me.

Post a picture of the ticket, we will take care of it

I know that really sucks because only about 1/1000 people come to a complete stop at any given stop sign. It's like shooting fish in a barrel if a cop wants to write this ticket.
The reality is that most drivers break at least one traffic law in omission.
That being said, I still try to drive safely, but I'll definitely try to be more careful ( I RARELY get tickets)

I will definitely ask about that. Thanks.

did you stop?
if yes, then ask for the dashcam, depending on where this occurred, dashcam should record the incident if he turned on his lights
if no, then go to the prosecutor's office and ask to reduce it to a non-moving violation and stop at stop signs in the future

Really depends on how you value your time.

To be honest, I want to see what's on the dash cam myself. Thanks. And yeah I will ask about the non-moving violation

Alpha: Call a lawyer and cut a deal on the ticket.
Beta: Go to court.

Yes the cop has to show up or it's dismissed. I once got a ticket in which neither me nor the cop showed up and it was dismissed but I got lucky there.
That's how it is here in South Carolina too. Found that out when I found a ticket I completely forgot about and was worried I had a warrant out on my arse. Called the court, lady said "judge tossed your ticket. Probably because the officer didn't show up to court. You got lucky" while laughing

Go to court, try to negotiate a reduction to a non-moving violation, and pay your penance. You don't want a guilty plea to count against you for insurance purposes. Your rates will go UP.

They will drag you back at least 3 times if the cop doesn't show up. Unless there happens to be a real case he has to testify for on the same day chances are slim he will show up.
I was driving through NC once and got hit with a 101 in a 55 and reckless driving. Gaston is the biggest speed trap in the country. Started getting mail from attorneys offering flat rate representation so I wouldn't have to drive back. Paid the $140 to the attorney. After the cop failed to show 3 times all charges were dropped. Best $140 I ever spent.

Yea, I don't think you have a speed trap to blame on this one buddy.

2 options you can take
1.) Try to work something out with the DA\City Prosecutor for pre trial diversion. You take an online class pay some $$ and it stays off your record.
2.) If this is a mayors court\City court go to court and plead not guilty. Mayor\ City judge will hold a hearing probably find you guilty. Appeal it and it will go up to the District level on appeal. Cop will probably not show up for an appeal on a traffic ticket and it will get dismissed.
2 things not to do
1.) ignore it- Bench warrant will be issued for you for Failure to pay\appear and your license will get suspended.
2.) Pay without trying to get it worked out -You will take a hit on your insurance for a moving violation.

This isn't a DWI it's a fricking traffic ticket. It's all about the $$$. Most courts do pre trial diversion on speeding tickets so they can collect the money. It's all traffic courts care about.
