Cutting the cord on Cox Cable - A few (probably dumb) questions...
Posted on 6/26/17 at 2:27 pm
Posted on 6/26/17 at 2:27 pm
I've been procrastinating getting rid of my $100+ tv bill from cox. But we need to. Because my wife and I are busy as hell with work/kids and watch very little TV.
EXCEPT... the Pels. I never miss a game.
This was my, probably stupid, reason for keeping cox the past couple years.
I understand I have options, though.
I've done some research but still can't find a truly clear answer for someone with my situation.
I figured someone on here has had the exact situation as me.
- I have Apple TV
- I hear there is a "team" pass for NBA league pass where I can only order Pels games
- Is this the route?
- What about Blackouts? I live in the city Uptown
Again, any help is appreciated, I know some of these questions are probably pretty moronic, but I need my Pels! (and need to save some damn money.........)

I believe PlayStation Vue has a package with the Fox Sports channel carrying the Pels games

if you dont mind going onto reddit and dealing with streams/popups that's how I assume most of us watch the games

Haha, noted.
But I'm cool with getting a legit package from League Pass. I heard a team pass for a season is only like 100 bucks

After the clowns at Eatel cut FSNO I went to streaming from Reddit on my PS4. Some nights are worst than others but for the most part it's good quality.

pretty sure if you get league pass, and live in Nola area, then Pelican games will be blacked out. League pass wasn't made for local people to watch their team. It was made for fans not living near their team to watch their team.
Both Vue and Sling will allow you to watch Pels games. Sling is cheaper if you just get the Fox option, but then you won't have ESPN.
Or you can just use your parents login or someone elses locally to get into the FoxSportsGo app. I use my dad's login for ESPN and FoxSports. And I don't feel the least bit bad about it. I literally only want to watch LSU and the Pels on tv, so I only need ESPN/SEC/FSNO. Ridiculous that i'd have to pay $100/month for a few channels and not watch any of the other 300.

I think Hulu Superplus or whatever has live streamed channels. Sling TV is another to look into.
I'm pretty sure you need 4th Gen Apple TV for either though.

Replace Cox with either PlayStation Vue or SlingTV. I know PSVue has the Pels (what I have) and I believe you get all the Fox Sportses with one of Sling's packages. I believe both have apps for Apple TV.
One thing to note, the stream within PSVue seems to be a little delayed and I find that accessing it directly from the Fox Sports Go app gets you closer to live, or at least closer to what people are posting in the game threads. Both PS Vue or Sling should give you credentials to access the FSGO app.
You should look at the channel lineups including locals for both as they're mostly the same but each has a few missing. I think in many cities Sling will have no local ABC/NBC/Fox/CBS while PS Vue has local CBS coverage for many cities including BR and I think NOLA. Also Sling lets you stream to 2 devices at a time while PS Vue lets you stream to 5.

This is all great info. Thanks everyone!
My neighbor has Sling and loves it. I don't see it on my apple TV though. So I could get sling box and then the Fox platform. I assume it has Fox Sports Nola included in its platform?

Just cut the cord in nola area. I am using directv now $50 package with a fire stick. A few buffering issues, but for the most part no big deal. The directv now has fox sports sw and Oklahoma. I am hoping that the ok channel is switched to nola for the pels season. If not, I think ps vue has fox sports no.

I just started with Vue on Friday, so that's awesome news. I saw that FSSW was included, but I wasn't sure if that turned into FSNO for Pels' games.

I go to r/nbastreams. They have 'verified' streamers who have streams up. Toward the end of last season when I got rid of cable that's how I watched. They usually had each team's broadcast as separate streams of the same game. And it was usually set up with league pass to cut in during the commercials, so you got to hear pels announcers and then see dancers and t shirt throwing etc instead of commercials.
Pretty legit. There are some ads but full screen the video and you don't see them.
Edit: oh and the quality was very nice after buffering for a few seconds

Cable companies are killing themselves by not cutting their bills in half.
