How Few Remain - Second War between the CSA and USA in the 1880s. Told from historical viewpoints such as old Abe Lincoln who was never killed, TR, Jeb Stuart, ect.
The other books in the series are told from fictional characters but have historical people mixed in. George Custer is supreme commander of the USA in the Great War (WW1 basically) that takes place between the south and the north.

Guns of the South has nothing to do with this series. There's no weird science fiction in this one, just alternate history.
