I've tried broadcast pellets from Lowes. It had something in it that they don't like the smell of. It worked but eventually they would come back. I tried poison bait that sort of looked like worms. You put them in active tunnels. I found them to be ineffective.
My mole problem was so bad I felt like Bill Murray in Caddyshack trying to kill that gopher. Had I had dynamite I would have blown up my whole yard.
I got pissed and broadcast insect and grub killer to kill their food source. That did not work for me. When their food was diminished they tunneled 80 times worse in search of food. I finally gave up and just deal with it.
Like others noted cats work pretty good but where I live I couldn't keep a cat running loose around the neighborhood.
