It was only a matter of time before this nonsense caught on elsewhere. Let's see how this plays out in Texas.
quote:
"Texans agree the disgusting idols of America's dark days of slavery must be removed to bring internal peace to our country."
"After we have this one removed, we can then work on getting the 67-foot Sam Houston statue outside of Huntsville turned into parking lot gravel, and the forest renamed."

Here's the one in Huntsville... let's see them move this one :

I don't understand this one. I thought Sam Houston was against secession? Oh he's a white male I forgot

quote:
Let me tell you what is coming. After the sacrifice of countless millions of treasure and hundreds of thousands of lives, you may win Southern independence if God be not against you, but I doubt it. I tell you that, while I believe with you in the doctrine of states rights, the North is determined to preserve this Union. They are not a fiery, impulsive people as you are, for they live in colder climates. But when they begin to move in a given direction, they move with the steady momentum and perseverance of a mighty avalanche; and what I fear is, they will overwhelm the South.[39]
Sam Houston before being tossed out of office.

"But, we'll keep looking away at the black on black crime that truly plagues our inner cities so we can do this to make political statements."
Some real geniuses doing this shite.

This continues to be some insane shite. Lots of wasted energy and money that could be better used elsewhere. Unfrickingbelievable.
Instead of being wasteful, they could try to utilize their time and raise money to put up more statues for people they want memorialized.

Not sure how Houston will ever survive without the Sam Houston statue in Hermann Park. Eat your heart out, New Orleans.

What a waste of their time. Not only did he oppose the CW but led us to our independence over Mexico at SJ.

Will they have to rename the city of Houston?

That's absolutely the very last thing this exercise in futility could possibly accomplish.

No way it's gonna happen. It's just a fringe group pushing this right now. It's not the mayor like it was in New Orleans.
But it just goes to show you how insane people are.
Sam Houston is like the father of Texas. He fought in the Battle of San Jacinto and won Texas' independence. Also, and here's the kicker:
He was also the only governor within a future Confederate state to oppose secession (which led to the outbreak of the American Civil War) and to refuse an oath of allegiance to the Confederacy, a decision that led to his removal from office by the Texas secession convention.
When he was a young man, he spent time with the Cherokee Nation, into which he later was adopted as a citizen and into which he married.
So this is a guy who is a Texas hero, was governor, was against secession, refused to support the Confederacy and was removed from office because of it, was made a Cherokee by the Cherokees and married a Native American woman. In the 1800's!
And yet they want his statue removed. The only explanation is because he's white. That's all I can come up with.

Didn't Sam Houston save Texas against the war vs Mexico?
This is almost as bad as the idiots wanting Jackson gone.
Smh

I bet Texas builds a shed 9 times the size of the one Mitch made.
