I wish they would have completed the removal of the first statue and base before moving on to the next. Typical NOLA, lets do the least amount of work to patch the problem and we will deal with it later. The infrastructure of the city looks like shite because this has been the same failed mentality year after year.

It's emblematic of what this whole statue removal thing was.

I don't understand why no one in the local media no one on the monumental task force no one in the preservation society no one at all in the city just come out to speak about this.

If you would've watched 30 seconds of what went on last night, you'd know that there wasn't any planning other than "show up with crane, tie straps, pull"

Tore down the beautiful work of Alexander Doyle, perhaps America's greatest sculptor. The call to roll statue in Metairie Cemetery is probably his finest work. And ftr, the equestrian statue in MC where PGTB is buried is actually a sculpture of Gen Albert Johnston, who was originally buried there.

I watched until about 1:30 or so. At that point, I honestly thought it might still be up this morning. I watched Jefferson being taken down, also.

The thing to do would have been to take them down one by one, but not go to the next until they'd redone the area where the first one was taken down. I'm stunned that they left this damaged pedestal in place and just walked away. Well, I say I'm stunned. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. Now, we'll see if Mitch takes responsibility for beautifying that area in some way. The donors of the money to take the statues down likely do not give a darn what it looks like now. I haven't found anything suggesting Mitch has plans for any type of replacement whether it's a monument, a fountain or even just nice landscaping.

Yea, I'm not surprised that fricking POS Mitch thinks this is a perfectly acceptable way to leave the entrance to the park. The guy is such a fricking clown.

The donors?

Make no mistake about it, the city is paying for and supplying labor for all of the removals. The cops or firemen literally had no idea what to do. There wasn't anyone with any plan or experience at the site. This was all city work, paid for by the city

Well this should all be pretty easy to track back down, no? If it was done on the tax payer dime after it was said that this was bought and paid for by private funds, this has to be grounds for some kind of malfeasance.

If you think the city of New Orleans doesn't know how to manipulate money, you have your head in the sand

I hope McConnell is another that is no longer welcomed to step foot in any establishment in this city.

No it will be tough because Nola4Life is Mitch's nonprofit who receives city funds who paid for the removal. The 501c3 is not subject to a public records request.
