Worth Pre-Wiring a House for Alarm System?

I know there have been several topics on SimpliSafe over the past few days/weeks, however, I'm looking for some thoughts on something a little different. We are currently building a house and one of the options we have is to pre-wire for the alarm, however, this cost is about $4,000 (estimate), so I wanted to get the OT's thoughts on whether this is worth it, or have the wireless systems gotten good enough to scrap the whole pre-wire piece. I know that if I buy all of the pieces (window/door sensors, etc.) I will probably get up there in price, but just wanted to get your opinions on the route we should take.
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

WTF
I bought the wire and ran it all myself... spent maybe $50 and it took me around an hour.
I did this when it was just stud walls though.

Did you also input all of the magnets for the door/window sensors as well, or did you contract that part out? Trying to figure out how complicated this may actually be.

$4000 to run wires while the studs are still exposed? This sounds completely off. Hell, buy the wire and run it yourself. Just have someone do the doors/windows if you're not comfortable doing that.

$4K added to the loan over 30 years? What is that, 12-15/month?

I had ADT come out and look everything over before the sheetrock went up. Their deal had so many window and door sensors and anything after that was extra. The guy told me what kind of sensors would work and I just bought the extra ones myself. Basically I ran all the wires myself and bought whatever they didn't supply. It wasn't that much at all.
You planning on going with a monitoring company? If so, have them send a salesman out and ask questions... that's what I did.

Hence why I came to the OT.
If it's easy enough to do myself, then I'd much rather save the money and put in a little elbow grease.
However, back to the original part of the question, is a wired system even needed anymore?

Thanks.
Yes, if we decide to go with the alarm, we will have it monitored.

we live in a wireless world.

That's where you need to figure out what's best for you. The wireless shite is going to cost more and then you have batteries and shite to worry about.
If you're going to go with monitored then get them out there to discuss it.

Holy frick you are getting screwed. I bet your contractors love you.
The wire they use is less than $.01/foot and the contacts are $2 each on a bad day.

Run the wires. It's easy for you to do. If you have techshield in your attic the signal will be F'ed up and you will also have wifi issues.
Just like network & cable/satellite. If you think you will need more outlets do it before the seal up the walls. It's easier today than later.

Wireless will need batteries.

back in the days, yes, because they would charge for instillation, plus they would drill into anything.
2017, most have wireless options, and don't need to be drilling your house up. And instillation is part of package.

Conduit?
not required in residential construction for low voltage cables.
I prewired houses when I was in high school during the summer. We would charge $150 to wire a blacked in house for alarm. That is why I was asking how in the hell the quote came out to $4K. I realize this was 20 years ago but there is no way in hell I would pay anywhere north of $300 no matter the size of the house.

depends on the level of security you want. if you want EVERY window and door linked...if you want motion sensors...if you want the garage hooked up, then yes. if you only want the doors done, then no

This is why I came looking for advice. Obviously, if I thought this was a good price, I wouldn't have asked around. I'm sure my contractors love the fact that I'm questioning the expense rather than just flat out agreeing.
