Every president in my lifetime has done that, so I don't get your point.

Obama frequently acknowledged God.

Even when he's absolutely full of shite about it? Neat.

I'm a republican so I should side with the whole Christian god thing.
But I don't. This is a democracy. Therefore there is no state religion. So I have absolutely no fricking clue why people use a president mentioning God as a reason to like them. He's done plenty of other good things since taking office that are infinitely more important.

Uncertainty reduction. Politics is a complicated game and it confuses people and makes them feel uncertain about what to believe. An expressed belief in god, no matter how obviously untrue, makes people feel like they can identify and reduce that uncertainty associated with the politician's views.

Then you must be pleased with every single President.

Do you really think Trump is a godly man? Charade.
Posted on 4/28/17 at 2:05 pm to burke985
They all do that. BTW, where has Trump gone to church?

I know right. Isn't it so refreshing when the president isn't afraid to speak publicly about his faith in Christ. Just look at this quote.
Oops, wait a minute, that was from Obama's Easter prayer breakfast. Trump decided not to continue that tradition. Never mind. I guess it WAS nice to have a president who was honest and open about his faith, unlike the current president who just pretends to be a Christian at campaign events.
quote:
I am no preacher. I can’t tell anything to this crowd about Easter that you don’t already know. I can offer just a couple of reflections very quickly before we begin the program.
For me, the celebration of Easter puts our earthly concerns into perspective. With humility and with awe, we give thanks to the extraordinary sacrifice of Jesus Christ, our Savior. We reflect on the brutal pain that He suffered, the scorn that He absorbed, the sins that He bore, this extraordinary gift of salvation that He gave to us. And we try, as best we can, to comprehend the darkness that He endured so that we might receive God’s light.
And yet, even as we grapple with the sheer enormity of Jesus’s sacrifice, on Easter we can't lose sight of the fact that the story didn’t end on Friday. The story keeps on going. On Sunday comes the glorious Resurrection of our Savior.
“Good Friday may occupy the throne for a day,” Dr. King once preached, “but ultimately it must give way to the triumphant beat of the drums of Easter.” Drums that beat the rhythm of renewal and redemption, goodness and grace, hope and love. Easter is our affirmation that there are better days ahead -- and also a reminder that it is on us, the living, to make them so.
Through God’s mercy, Peter the Apostle said, we are given “an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you.” It’s an inheritance that calls on us to be better, to love more deeply, to serve “the least of these” as an expression of Christ’s love here on Earth.

I down voted because Trump doesn't believe in god.
He certainly doesn't believe in the god that represents(Yahweh/Jehovah) of the Judeo-Christian heritage.
Even if he does believe he has NEVER through his life actions operated under their auspices, teachings or laws.
Trump gives lip service to fool religious people, and it should be plainly apparent to any practicing person of those faiths.
While some of his political actions may align with people of those faiths, thinking members of those faiths are not fooled.
None of the above is not to imply that Hillary would have done any better. She obviously gave lips service too and her public pronouncements were even more offensive to those groups.

I downvoted your post because you do not know Trump any better than I do and yet you know all these facts. I said "scared the left wanted to take god out of everything in life in fear of offending some tranny or gay person.

He don't need no church. Haven't you heard?? This board has anointed him as alpha God emperor!
Besides, his two Corinthian buddies prove he is a Christian!

Didn't God command Adam to grab Eve's pussy? Or was it the other way around?

quote:Like every other president ever? None of them believe in shite--at least not strongly. Shouldn't validate your faith to have them pay lip service to it.

How many times has Trump been to church since being in office? Did he attend easter service?
