Have the players quit on CPM?

Do they think he's not the guy anymore?

Are you assuming they were "playing for the coach" to begin with?

Did the football team quit in Miles?
Posted on 4/26/17 at 7:55 am to GeismarGeauxer
Why would you say this?
Posted on 4/26/17 at 7:56 am to GeismarGeauxer
How is that relevant?

People are retarded and insist on this Miles = Mainieri meme when it's pretty easy to criticize Mainieri without making some stupid cross-sport comparison

No, they don't play for him.

I'm not sure that really happens at this level. It's not like he's pulling a Paterno or Coach Kilmer here.
But I do believe that the coach can drive the emotions of a team or player. There are times when you need to yell at a player. Times when you need to get animated in the dugout. Times when you need to raise a little hell on the field. We've all heard the lines Skip would give his pitchers. We all remember seeing his head bobbing about during a team huddle. And I'm positive that Skip got kicked out of a game on purpose just to motivate his players.
I think CPM just lacks that particular quality, and it is most sorely missed during the postseason when it is most important. I would've come out of the dugout looking like George Brett after that bullshite hidden ball call during the UCI game, but that's not Coach Paul "Small Ball" Maineri's style. Maybe that lackluster approach has infected the players, and that just doesn't work in today's game.

How is he doing at driving the emotions of players vs what Andy did with hitters in past seasons?

With the offensive game plan he showed up with to play Alabama I think they did quit on him.
CPM with his timely pitching changes seem to not work also. I think CPM is as good as his assistants are.

his pitchers are fricked up in the head. they probably haven't given up on PM tho; Dunn if anyone
a lot of these guys will be drafted this year. they are not going to "give up" on anyone.

I have defended Mainieri, and I don't think he should be fired over this season's results. But I can't defend him any more for this season. The losing streak to Tulane is inexcusable and the lack of offensive production at Kentucky is inexcusable.
At this point, I can't blame anyone who criticizes and puts the blame on Mainieri.

Ya know, it is possible to critique CPM without bringing up Les Miles. Groundbreaking concept, I know.

Two things are apparent.
The loss of Cannizzaro and subsequent hiring of Gibbs has been a disaster. I think what we are seeing is that Cannizzaro was making us a notch better than we were AND Gibbs is making us a notch worse. This was a team on paper that was a contender that is performing like a marginal regional team. I honestly think the team is overrated at the moment.
The pitching staff has almost nothing to hang its hat on. The top of the staff has underperformed and the bullpen has been disasterous at times. Our starters are at least as likely to get run within 5 innings as they are to have a great outing.
When things go this bad it's usually not just one thing. It's way worse. This team would have to turn it around top to bottom for it to play to its potential on paper.

Well if they did, shame on them since they were the ones that convinced him not to go to Texas.

Just curious, where did this come from and was it the entire team?
