New Orleans is too small. Not only that, they also don't have the corporations and $$$ to support it. MLB games aren't exactly cheap.
Austin is a more attractive choice.

US media markets larger than NOLA that don't have an MLB team:
#18 Orlando
#20 Sacramento
#22 Charlotte
#24 Raleigh-Durham
#25 Portland, OR
#27 Indianapolis
#29 Nashville
#30 Hartford/New Haven
#31 San Antonio
#32 Columbus
#34 Salt Lake City
#37 Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville
#38 West Palm Beach
#39 Austin
#40 Las Vegas
#41 Oklahoma City
#42 Norfolk
#43 Harrisburg/Lancaster, PA
#44 Grand Rapids
#45 Birmingham
#46 Greensboro/Winston-Salem
#47 Jacksonville
#48 Albuquerque/Santa Fe
#49 Louisville
#50 New Orleans
Now, 41-50 are all separated by less than 100K households, and some of these are already really close to existing MLB teams, but those are still a bunch of better candidates than NOLA.

I'd love one here, but it's obvious we can't support one for 81 games a year. I'll just stick with my Astros though.

Yep.

I think weather is a valid excuse. It's too fricking hot and humid.

If you are truly worried about supporting your MLB team due to conflicts with the state university's baseball team, then your city should receive a permanent ban from any future consideration of an expansion team.

Zero support. I say:
Shitcan the Babycakes.
Build a Double-A park downtown.
I know, easier said than done, but downtown ballparks are sweet

What is the NBA team's support and average attendance like compared to the other teams?
Also, what does the arena hold? 20,000?

I agree. Stick it over by Mardi Gras world.
ETA: Would be great to flex their eminent domain muscle and build it in Algier's Point with the French Quarter and St. Louis Cathedral in the background.

You are not taking baseball fans from LSU or ULL games to go to a new MLB team's games, hell even SLU averages between 1000-1500 people a game you would be missing out on. Putting on the east side of NOLA wouldn't be much better, as the couple of Shuckers games I went to weren't exactly packed, though I'm sure more people would go to a MLB game vs. a minor league game.

You build a retractable roof like every other hot weather team and a few cold weather teams. You think Houston and Miami are nice in July and August? Or Milwaukee in April?

I dont know the data, but im guessing teams with a dome/retractable roof are in the bottom half of attendance figures
Eta: just looked, only the Blue Jays were at the top

I think baseball in NOLA could work, but it would take a leap of faith from those financially invested. NOLA/BR Metro plus MS gulf coast depending where the stadium was built. Smaller echolon of MLB stadiums sit around 35k - basically 3.5 Alex Box Stadiums.
New TV market for MLB, as well as prime venue for All Star Weekend. Would be a prime destination for visiting fans as well.
Also, with MLB ramping up the RBI program & trying to engage African American interest in baseball, NOLA could make sense.

Last year Toronto was third, Milwaukee 16th, Houston 17th, Seattle 19th, Arizona 21st, Miami 27th, Tampa 30th.
Toronto Seattle and Houston were also the only teams that were decent or better out of those last year.
If Portland or Montreal got a team it's highly likely they would have a roof on their stadium. Texas just got a new stadium approved to basically put a roof on it.

Miami has a roof for their stadium and garbage attendance. Same with Tampa.

I don't think the MLB is interested in putting a team in Manchac.

Tampa's stadium is just straight up trash. Blaming their attendance problems on having a stadium with a roof is pretty ridiculous

I don't think Miami's attendance problems have anything to do with their retractable roof.
And Tampa's attendance might have some issues with the dome, but their main problem is that their stadium isn't in Tampa.
