It is a lot closer to little league than major league. Check any MLB lineup.

Remember how we had Jared Foster in the 9 hole? That worked really well. I think CPM likes having a guy that can be a lead off in the 9 hole.

I agree with this thougnt process.
You can't have all your top hitters at the top and struggle through the bottom.
Give it some life and get a guy on for the top of the order.
I do think CPM moved him due to lack of hitting, but it worked.
I've heard coaches say the 8 hole is an important spot, but 9 is for CPM.
The only problem is less at bats.
The top of the order obviously gets more at bats.

You guys just lap up any BS that Mainieri spews out there. You don't stick good hitters in the 9 hole just to get a guy on base for the top of the lineup. That means you are giving a good hitter less at bats every game. Just because Mainieri throws out some explanation on why he does it doesn't make it a good one. As other posters have been pointing out, you don't see MLB managers sticking the pitcher in the 8 hole so that a solid hitter can bat 9th (actually Tony Larussa used to try this but discovered it didn't pay off). Mainieiri's problem is he recruits and entire team of leadoff and 2 hole hitters. He doesn't want guys with power because when he has those types he buries them on the bench.

Every coach has different opinions on lineup formation. This is CPM's. i don't mind it because at least he has a reason behind doing that move. There are a lot of things he does that has no reason and he is literally just throwing something at the wall and see if it sticks.

Ya know, there are a lot of people in this world that you just can't please...there always seem to be the Negative Nancy or Debbie Downer types in every crowd...I just didn't realize that winning a baseball game could make people act like whiney assed, little bitches...

drop Freeman into the nine hole.
Freeman is a leadoff hitter and is the best on the team at working a count. Him and KRob work a count better than anyone and need to stay in the 1 and 2 hole. Duplantis and Watson are both good hitters but are free swingers and rarely work a count in their favor. I like Duplantis or Watson in the 3 or 5 hole doesnt matter which one they both don't strike out often.
Freeman
KRob
Duplantis
Deichman
Watson
Romero
Coomes
Jordan/Reid/Wooley/Slaughter(let someone try to win the DH role)
Smith
If Pap catches he is in 8 hole and Romero is DH

Second leadoff, breh.
Probably the thing Mainieri says (and presumably believes in) that I disagree with the most.

The concept of putting a good hitter #9 to bunch him up with the top of the lineup is the dumbest thing I've ever heard to be frank.
There is 1 stat that no one can disagree with; the #9 hitter will 100% of the time get the least amount of at bats (please dont push the walk doesnt count as AB bull). Why would you put a good batter in a spot to see less pitches? If you want him bunched up with the top of the lineup, put him at the top of the lineup.

KRob work a count better
I agree with Freeman working the count but 100% disagree with K-Rob working counts. Most of his fly ball outs is because of his aggressive approach at the plate and swinging at the first pitch. Leading off, or even when batting with a new pitcher on the mound, he has a real bad habit of swinging at the first pitch.

Quit thinking line up construction in college is like little league. Batting 9th is a better spot in the lineup at this level than 8th.
Seems like an antiquated way of thinking. Sabermetrics would tend to want to maximize at bats by the players who create the most runs. While it might not be as applicable as it is in the major leagues since college players hit fewer home runs I'd stil like to see duplantis get more ABs

We all know successful coaches never use statements to the media to give a kid a reason to not get down on himself....

I understand why he is 9th. But he needs to be in an rbi position in lineup and that is 6th.

I really like the lineup when we have Coomes and Romero's bats in the lineup. Paps is pretty good behind the plate, but he is a liability at the plate.

Looks like I have you 29 to 1 (and the one won't be that way by the season's end). Basically, you are making my point.
