Curious as well. Everything I've seen makes them not even seem worth it.

IMO, if it's through your employer it's probably a good value. But if your employer doesn't offer a good plan then I wouldn't go seek out a private plan.

Our company has delta dental. It costs employees about $40/month for entire family. You get 2 cleanings and xrays per year each person and supposedly discounted dental work but we've never used that.
I have no idea about private/individual plans.

I decline my work option it sucks. It's like $30 a pay period and one cleaning a year is exactly $150 cash. Most dental insurance plans have a max $1000 payout, but some have some have more and some have something like a 10% coverage after $1000.
My point being unless you have absolutely horrible teeth or your dental coverage is very cheap, you are better off just paying cash.
My dentist started offering their own "insurance" its $350/ year for patients and includes 2 cleanings, all xrays, 2 fluorides, and a bunch of other stuff along with 10% off all work. Its a pretty solid deal. I would just worry if you need major work they'd job you somehow.

Every plan I've looked at isn't worth it. $450 for two cleanings a year? No thanks. Even my old dentist office said many plans were bad off.

If the dental insurance is an employer benefit with a very low premium, take it. Otherwise, be an OT baller and self-insure.

I've debated keeping my dental insurance through Cigna.
Basically, it covers two cleanings per year. The first appointment still runs about $100 to cover any annual x-rays and such. After that, you get ~$1500 in total annual coverage for any work needed.
You don't really have work done every year, so it really worth paying $300 bucks a year? For most people, it's probably cheaper to just pay out of pocket for cleanings and putting the occasional extra work on an interest free Carecredit card.

Get a job. It costs $5 a month after that

I've had a few plans over the years. Most suck and are only worth it because the premiums are low and they pay for most preventive maintenance. Most don't pay shite % wise for major orthodontics.

I have BCBS and I don't know exactly how much I pay for it, but they are paying for 50% of my braces and a huge chunk of my wisdom teeth extraction

I don't know what my company plan costs but my two visits a year cost me about $250 which has to be cheaper than any plan out there.

We pay about $250 a year and get one free cleaning a year each so it's a wash. But why not pay the $250 and get covered for 70% if I need any major surgery for no extra cost?
