You still see some, like Houston pretty consistently electing fiscally moderate/conservative Democrats.
It's hard to be John Breaux in today's world:

Sheila's fiscally moderate?

Democrats really really need to let social issues die and get on the student loan reform train.

They need to lock up that 0.3% of the tranny vote share though.

That map illustrates what I've tried to explain on here a few times. As much as my state gets shite on for being some sort of liberal paradise, Seattle is the only full on blue area.

Sorry at the local level i.e. mayor.
Sheila represents the bluest area of Houston. She doesn't really have an ideology beyond ignorance.
Parker and Turner are both Democrats, but they are smart enough not to drive off the highly-educated moderate voters in West Houston.
They've also kept Houston away from the worst of the BLM nonsense despite the HERO ordinance thing.

Baselessly smearing the majority of americans with false accusations of being racist, bigoted, xenophobic, sexist, homophobes isn't working.
They only do that to Trump voters which represents at the most 25% of all Americans when you see that only 25% of all eligible voters voted for him.

Racist, bigoted, homophobic are labels you attached to Romney voters as well

The smear campaign on Romney was absolutely deplorable. There is not one shred of evidence that he is anything they accused him being during that campaign.

Yet they are tripling down on it

Remember when they got on him for strapping the dog/dog crate to the roof of the family vehicle?
Even his own party went after him...
Hell, look at this cringy Rick Santorum quote: "As far as Seamus the dog ... the issues of character are important in this election. We need to look at all those issues and make a determination as to whether that's the kind of person [Romney] you want to be president of the United States.”
Even has its own Wiki page

quote:Very interesting that you use one of the hand full of liberal posters to illustrate this point instead of the simple fact that this board is 99% Trumpkin "dont give a frick what happens" shills.
the decline of moderate posters on this board (a want) a microcosm of this
Even the conservative "moderates" voted for Trump, are generally apologists, and think liberals are wrong about everything.
Moderate conservatives are called "cucks" here. And yet...A want is your example?
Come on now.

Trump is probably the most moderate republican candidate in the last 40 years. Hillary, like her husband, was also quite moderate.
You're confusing substanceless with moderate.
Not having policy is different than having moderate policy.

Those people who are able to afford getting out of rural shitholes do, and become liberal.

B. Is this a reflection on people focusing on the letter next to the name and the person they are voting on? --this is something I have been thinking about in local elections.
Straight-ticket checkboxes are a huge problem IMO. In addition, district engineering is likely skewing the numbers somewhat as well. The biggest factor, though, is how easy it is to live in an echo chamber these days, thanks to the Internet. The amount of disdain each side has for the other is pretty sad at this point, and instead of seeing this as a problem, politicians are taking advantage of it. It got our current president elected.
