I know many of you have been. The wife and I were planning a Cabo trip for next Mardi Gras, but it doesn't look like that's the best time to fish. Looked into CR and it looks to be a great time of the year there. Question is, is there anything to do there besides fishing? We would obviously fish one day and probably have 2 to hang out. Planned on staying 4 nights. Thanks.

ETA: my bad, didn't see where this said Cabo
I'll be right next door in Jaco in a few months and we're fishing, 4 wheeler rides through the jungle, and some other stuff I can't talk about.... If you play golf, someone recently said LS has a really nice course.

Yea I saw February is great for bills in CR. Just trying to find a way to convince my wife to go there instead of Cabo (although I love Cabo).

Yes, monkey tours are cool. Zip lining in the jungle is cool. Just walking through Manual Antonio park is cool. I love that place.

I literally just got back from Los Suenos yesterday and have actually been there during Mardi Gras before. We were there during Mardi Gras two years ago and caught 88 sailfish in 3 days and plenty of Mahi. The fishing in February and March is some of the best of the year. This year has been the slowest sailfishing that they have had in anyone's recent memory during these months, but its an anomaly for sure. If you're considering fishing, look at the inshore stuff too. You can catch Roosterfish and a ton of cool bottom fish inshore for much cheaper. Good option if the offshore bite isn't hitting. We did one day of inshore and 3 days of offshore, and I really enjoyed the inshore stuff just as much.
That said, there are jungle tours, golf, zip lining, surfing lessons in Jaco, a decent casino at Croc's Resort, ATV trails/rentals, jetskis, parasailing, etc. Theres even White Water rafting nearby. Plenty of spa options at Los Suenos.
Los Suenos is legit.

Awesome. Think I'm gonna start looking at rooms and boats.

I've been to Los Suenos and Cabo. It's an easy sell to your wife! Cabo is in a desert and really isn't pretty outside of the resorts. CR is a rainforest jungle. It's beautiful! Mangrove tours. Jungle tours. Zip lines, fishing, golf. Horseback or 4 wheeler rides on beach and jungle. Locals are much friendlier and much less "pushy" salesmen types. Go to CR!

Tiger, Where is the bee to stay in Los Suenos? Any All- Inclusives nearby? Thanks.

There is a Marriott in Los Suenos ( which I think is all inclusive) and several other condos available for rent.
Also check out Maverick Sportfishing for your charter services....they offer all inclusive deals where they can book your a condo as well as arrange for transportation to and from airport. Ask for Christian.

If you golf, the golf course on site (La Iguana) is amazing. Go check out all the hookers at the Cocal casino in Jaco one night too, its quite entertaining.

If y'all are adventurous, look into a waterfall tour. That was the coolest thing we did other than fishing.

Dumb question, but what airport do you fly into? I am a travel newbie but Costa Rica has always been at the top of my list of places to visit.

For Los Suenos/Jaco? SJO.

You can fly into the other one, but I've always flown Houston direct to San Jose. Its about a 2.5 hour flight.
Then about a hour drive to Los Suenos from the airport. or you can go big time and get a helicopter to take you straight there in about 20 minutes.

In Los Suenos you will either stay at the Marriott or you can rent a condo or house. The best hotel in the area is Villa Caletas - very high end place, probably 30 minutes from Los Suenos.
Fishing is spectacular there - we always booked with Costa Rica Dreams (boat and lodging) and never had a bad trip.

I would recommend staying in the resort. There are some individually owned condos on there available for rent.
