It looks like those made for tv movies from the late 80s - early 90s where they'd have one big actor/actress in a cast of nobodies. Poor Shirley Maclaine.

that is a moronic statement. Little Mermaid started a resurgence of Disney animation.

if they had been more faithful to the actual material people would still be bitching that it's not the Disney version
(spoilers from the real book)
she kills herself and becomes a spiritual being having to do good deed for 300 years before she can enter heaven

I thought Chole Grace was cast as the Mermaid.

Disney was pretty much in the dumps before the little mermaid. If you didn't have the little mermaid and it's fantastic music, memorable characters, and box office success you probably wouldn't have gotten beauty and the beast, the lion king, alladin, etc. Sure it's more of a classic princess story but it was fantastic
I can appreciate it's animation history, and there is a ton that is likable about TLM, but Ariel is just awful. She really is by far my least favorite Disney princess. She is only a spoiled bitch who puts literally the entire ocean at peril all for getting some dick. I'd be horrified if my daughter turned into her.
Some critics were flipping their shite over Beauty and the Beast's concept of a woman falling for a guy that imprisons her. Ariel is going to need a complete overhaul as a character because the modern audience will see through Ariel's bullshite and call her a selfish, stupid bitch.

Should've cast Paul Giamatti as the evil ring master.
