I said that I noted it, not that I got worked up about it. If grammatical errors affected me that way, it wouldn't be healthy for me to come here.

Drinking. Sharing a beer with your son is a just a sign of them becoming a man. Sharing a joint with your son is just trashy as frick

Drinking so I can put foot to arse early next morning like clearing about a mile of fence line.

Huh? Is your hypothetical child handling ounces of marijuana? Why would that show up on his record?
Drinking, meanwhile, could get him slapped with a MIP, in which he would have to go through pre-trial diversion; or perhaps a DUI, which is like, a felony and stuff

Smoking, I don't drink so I can bum some weed from him. This only if he has his own job. If he is getting the money from me than I would have a problem with that.

Mary Jane
I've never heard of weed poisoning, but alcohol has claimed a few lives.
Once you're high, there is not much higher one can go. With alcohol, if you keep drinking, you'll die.

FTR, I currently have a son who is 18 and a HS senior. I know that he and his friends drink on some weekends. Hell, some teenager is having a party around here practically every weekend at which drinking takes place. We've had a couple of very serious discussions about it. My points to him have been very clear. NEVER drink and drive or ride with anyone who has been drinking, and know when you've had enough. Will he heed what I've told him in every situation? I don't know, and no matter how much you stress these things to your kids, you'll never really know either. You can only feel secure in knowing that you've done the best that you can do and try to worry as little as possible. Believe me, if they are determined to drink or smoke, you're not going to stop them.

I'll float this out there. Was gonna start a thread but nah.
A coworker had their son busted. Basically, 911 was called in a dorm for a drunk girl. Cops and EMS show up and take care of drunk girl. She HAS NOTHING TO DO with this kids room. Just another room several doors down. Cops show up and bust this kid and room mates for weed?
Do police have any business in another dorm unless Cheech and Chong smoke is pouring out or a kid runs out screaming " there is weed in there!!l"
This kid got charged. With what I've no idea. But any possession charge I'd have issue with? Why are you searching? Why are you in ANY other dorms?
Thoughts from youngsters? Been 18 years since I've been in a college atmosphere and cocaine was involved so we are talking apples and assholes.

If they can smell it in a dorm, they're gonna come looking. That's just unlucky for your coworker's kid.

I'm not a parent but I would rather catch my children drinking. I plan on exposing my children to alcohol around the age of 18. No, I will not be giving them a bottle of tequila, nor encouraging them to drink by any means. However, if they want to have a small glass of wine, or a beer at the dinner table sometimes,(legal in the sate of LA) that's fine. I don't want alcohol to be some big and unexplored mystery for my children when they finally live away from me. They're going to drink when they go to college anyway. All of us did.
So many of my classmates went absolutely crazy with alcohol the moment they left home in an act of rebellion. Most of their parents sheltered them so much they had no idea how to handle themselves in social drinking situations.

I would rather teach my kids, "Everything in moderation"
Have fun, but Don't be a pot head and Don't be a drunk or lush.

Smoking. Getting caught with personal amounts of weed these days is about equal legally to getting caught underage drinking anyway, and they're less likely to make a stupid life changing (or ending) decision.

You dont think your kids will be exposed to alcohol before 18?
Anyways, I would rather catch my kids smoking. Alcoholism runs in my family, hell my dad wakes up with the shakes every night and has to drink vodka to fall back asleep. He has been in and out of treatment many times. These problems simply dont exist with weed

If I had a kid, drinking.
I could legally buy him/her whatever alcoholic beverage s/he wanted, and as long as s/he consumed it in my home, I would be protected under the law.
Even if I lived in a state where marijuana is legal, it is still illegal under Federal law. As a Federal employee that would be too much risk to take (I could lose everything after 30 years in).

What if your kid had a crippling addiction to alcohol later in his life?
Is that not too much of a risk to take?

Considering I could drink at 18, my answer will be drinking.

Not a parent but weed with drinking I worry about driving, HS kids already do way too much stupid shite in cars sober.
