Control Device for Kamado Grills

Long time lurker here, but wanted to share this in case anyone was interested. This is a control device for BGE, Primo, and Kamado Joe that works by automating the daisy wheel of these grills. Similar to the BBQ Guru and Flame Boss, you set the temperature you want to maintain and the controller maintains that temp. Unlike those products, this does not force air flow with a fan at the intake. You leave the intake open and the only adjustment made by the controller is of the top damper.
They just launched their kickstarter campaign. I was a beta tester, and the device works really well on my Primo XL. For the record, I have no ties to the company or financial incentive- I just think it is a cool device and wanted to share.

Any idea on what pricing will look like?

The "early bird" kickstarter is $229. That is for the first 50 units sold on kickstarter. Looks like there are 21 left at that price as of now. Then it bumps to $249 through kickstarter. Once its in production, I think the price will be $279.

I understand the convenience and functionality, but dang...that's pretty expensive.

What is the advantage over a temp controller/fan setup?

I tend to agree, but its comparable to the other wifi controllers out there. I think the BBQ Guru Cyber Q and the Flame Boss 200 run about the same price.
The price of convenience I guess....

Not sure there is any huge advantage. The inventors say its because it operates the grill as it is supposed to be operated (i.e., through vent adjustment rather than forced air). They also claim that it uses less power, so batteries aren't eaten quite as quickly. Not sure these are significant enough differences, but it is fun to watch it operate.

Has anybody tried this one? Much cheaper and had decent reviews on the kamado forums.

Just get a Heatermeter, that way you have a device that can work with many different types of smokers.
