Since our prefrontal cortex's don't fully mature until around the age of 25, I'd say yes. Way too young to make a decision like this.
What if he/she wants to go back to their original sex?

They already have a word/phrase for this

It'll be too late after surgery. Even if Beggs doesn't become 'post-op', I imagine the hormonal treatments have done his/her body and brain for a fricking doozy.

It was already fricked in the head

I'm not so sure. Most teenagers are a little fricked in the head, it comes with the territory. The problem now is that there are medical professionals and internet crazy people telling them that their natural adolescent feelings of angst and confusion are because they are the wrong gender.

The Texas Education Code and UIL rules prevent steroid use, but the code allows their use if “dispensed, prescribed, delivered and administered by a medical practitioner for a valid medical purpose.”
Pretty sure that exception was meant for steroids prescribed for short term use to recover from illness or surgery....not long term steroid usage meant to completely change the body's hormones. How did no competitors or other schools challenge this with the UIL or in court? A steroid shot to help someone recovering from an infection doesn't give them any competitive edge...but a girl taking steroids for months/years to become more manly definitely creates a physical advantage in a sport like wrestling.
ETA: Nevermind...read the article
quote:
A Coppell lawyer and wrestling parent filed a lawsuit this month against the UIL, the agency that governs Texas high school athletics, seeking to have Beggs suspended for steroid use, The Associated Press reported. Beggs is taking testosterone, and Jim Baudhuin’s lawsuit contends that allowing Beggs to compete while using testosterone exposes other athletes to “imminent threat of bodily harm,” the AP reported.
Baudhuin has denied that his lawsuit is a reaction to Beggs being a transgender male.
“I respect that completely, and I think the coaches do,” he said. “All we’re saying is she is taking something that gives her an unfair advantage.”

The coaches, the wrestlers, the one in question and his/her family all agree she/he should be in the male division.
But by God, the Godly People of Texas will have none of that! She's a girl! She will wrestle with girls!!!

Are you crazy? You can't bring a tranny to court that's genderist

I misread this earlier, I thought this was a girl that became a boy and wrestled boys.
Honestly this kid shouldn't be allowed to compete with girls.

This is exactly what the hard-rights in Texas politics wanted. If you are a female by birth gender, then by God you are a female!!
Yup. What does have to do about allowing an athlete to jack up on steroids?

IT's not an issue of "allowed". She is "required" if she wants to wrestle. They will not let her wrestle with the guys.

Maybe, maybe not, but that's not part of the issue.

The female body jacked up on steroids probably would be althetically comparable to a male body.
No one would have an issue athletically if she wrassled with the boys.

That's fine but she shouldn't be allowed to take a steady dose of steroids that obviously give her an unfair advantage

In a related note, I watched The Ringer again this weekend and it holds up.

Well then he/she/whatever shouldn't participate in any high school sports.
If they want to wrestle then go through USA wrestling.
