From a bona fides point of view, you really could not do much better since he was the former Director of the DIA. That being said, he had been a discipline problem while he worked for Obama.

FRom what I'm reading, the context of the calls was a discussion of the sanctions, but even the "sauces" admit that Flynn did not make any promises to the Russians about lifting of sanctions.

It could be that the Democrats and the intel community went after him because of Trump's attacks on the intel community and that caught Flynn on a technicality of violating some part of the Logan Act which prevents private citizens from conducing any aspect of foreign policy.....meeting with an Ambassador and discussing things with the Ambassador could be construed as conducting foreign policy even if no promises were made. It's kind of chicken shite, really, but at the time Flynn was a private citizen.
