I truly think we are headed for a civil war.

For other reasons, I've been reading up on the details of the lead ups to (among others) the American civil war and the Spanish civil war. The similarities are certainly there in the last few years. If we were to follow the Spanish track in particular, it isn't Trump who presides, it will be the leftist who follows him.
The vitriol on both sides has reached the point where we are seeing major upswings in both the far left and far right. Politics is taking the place of religion in the American consciousness. Violence (right now from the left, could be from the right soon enough) is starting to become commonplace. States are becoming more serious about breaking away. The enforcement of simple national laws are being resisted at the state and local level. Regions are hardening toward fronts. Certain groups who have long been in power are having it stripped from them, and are demanding it back. Neither side cares what the other thinks, at all.
How does a far leftist, what the DNC is pushing to possibly replace trump in 48 years, heal this divide?
I don't think we're going to come back from this until we all get an up close and personal reminder of how awful war is.

Nah, the war will be with Iran or North Korea

I swear some of you really want something this terrible to happen
5 topics saying this every day.
If we had a serious civil war our status in the world would never be regained

Yes.
WAR

No way in hell to many people dependent on normal people paying taxes so they can have stuff.

I hope you don't mean me. I would rather 8 years of Hillary Clinton than a civil war.
I am not glib about this at all. I'm saying this as something I do not want. People don't think about how awful it would be.

Kaiser you ever deployed son?
Most people who've been to war don't wish to come home and start killing their countryman
Didn't mean you specifically cokebottle it's just something people were saying would happen 100% and they'd gladly start a revolution if trump lost during the election on here

You realize the red states are utterly dependent financially on the blue ones right?
Oh wait ya'll didn't realize this in 1861, either

Have you seen combat? I think if you ask anyone who has, you'd find they wouldn't be as excited about it as you. Just saying.

For real. The old powers will have won, and will seek to exert influence in a big way.

What is worse? This or the fact I work 1.625 days a week for the government with nothing to show for it?

Maybe, depends on how the changes take effect. Trump is a very crucial president considering the times. He must do well otherwise everything will devolve into chaos. The left currently provides no real alternative stances besides "you're all racist, you should die". So trump has to please all conservatives, centrist, and some fringe dems.

Until one side (right or left) creates its own militarized fighting force, I don't see any type of "war" taking place.

quote:Meh. This is the like the same phenomen that we've witnessed with crime due to media, and now social media.

Violence and conflict is inherently interesting so it's covered disproportionately. And our brains take this this disproportionate coverage, and it becomes the most salient and available information, so we asssume it's far more pervasive than reality.
It's called the Availability Heuristic, and it explains why terrorism is so powerful, and why we think crime had risen over decades when it actually dropped.

Let's see, the Lib's who are afraid of guns vs the conservatives who believe in the right to bear arms. I wonder who will win?
