quote:Does it flash up an error message of any kind before it exits back? It could be flashing so quickly it might be hard to notice but see if you can by launching the games over and over and letting it exit out while looking for any kind of indication of what's going on.
They show up in retro pie and I click on them and it the game title shows up but then the screen flashes and it goes black. Every other system works fine
It might be trying to output the NES games in a resolution your TV doesn't understand. You could also test this by hooking it back up to your newer TV, via HDMI, just to see what happens. Regardless, I would play with resolution settings. After you select a game in EmulationStation you have a few brief moments to hit a button on your controller to launch additional options. There are settings in there for output resolution. Try lowering and raising the resolution to see what results you get.
If that's a dead end, try a different emulator. In that same menu, the first option in the list lets you change your emulator for that system. See if that makes a difference.
ETA: Here is a thread that might be worth reading through.

No error message. What's the optimal resolution?
