Getting rid of salary and players that aren't going to be here long term for youthful talent that has showed tremendous potential pairing next to AD long term

Because Dell's motives at selfish. Barely win now to compete for a below .500 8 seed and sacrifice the future. He needs to be fired and we need to do a hard reset.

I see these moves as long term moves though
Posted on 2/6/17 at 6:50 pm to Chad504boy
Dell should have no say in long-term moves
Posted on 2/6/17 at 6:52 pm to Chad504boy
Yeah it doesn't seem that bad to me.

So it's a whine no matter what we do

Okafor is 21 years old. This is his 2nd season.

Is that going to change the orders from the top to win now?

There is no evidence at all of a win now edict. Derps' method under Benson is no different than it was before.

I'd much rather take one of these PGs in this draft than have Okafor. Now if the pick is protected heavily do the trade.

What does that have to do with a 2018 draft pick?

Your definition and my definition of tremendous must differ.
It's already been laid out but Okafor is currently the worst center in real plus/minus in the league. He is already a bit of a question mark in the injury department and his game overlaps AD's along with not being in the mold of Gentry's desired players. He isn't a good rebounder and can't play defense.

Too acquire young players around Davis? The point was for these players to grow with Davis. That would have accomplished the win now orders from management along with building for the future. Issue is, all these young players like Jrue and EG couldnt stay healthy.

Hes also in Philly where who knows what's going on.
The reality is, if we're adding the worst center in the NBA, how is that making us better and win now? If anything it would make us worse right?
Worse enough for a top 3 pick this year and either tanks us in 2018 and allows us to keep the lottery protected pick or helps us enough we're in the playoffs.
I don't see the problem at all.

Its definitely coming from the top(above Demps' head) because the Saints have been run the EXACT same way they entire 2000s. Loomis was trading away draft picks for vets way before Demps got to New Orleans

How do you know we aren't trading this years pick?

Context matters. Going after Okafor(and showing strong reluctance to entertain trading Jrue) signals pretty heavily that we are looking to chase that worthless 8 seed.
I don't think Okafor is as bad as his numbers but he is not a very complimentary piece. He occupies similar space as AD but less efficient and he is a poor rebounder and defender. He is basically another in a long line of one-way utility players that when using so many in conjunction have made our team so inconsistent.
If you asked what sort of 5 does AD need next to him in a Gentry offense? I don't think many would say a half court, post player that occupies the same space as AD and doesnt board well or play any defense.

Every outlet has been saying 2018 pick. Could very well be the 2017 pick, but I'm giving dell the benefit. If it's a 2018 lottery protected, it's worth it every way you look at it. More so if you are adding ajinca

Make the case for how Okafor is a viable long-term piece for this franchise? Because i fail to see it.
While also seeing an injury prone player that if the fit is not right will see his trade value plummet and will be unlikely to recoup our losses....A typical theme with this franchise.
Keeping in mind that so far Philly is rejecting a lottery protection. They want some chance at a lottery pick.

We already knew that.

My issue with this is that if you want him to start that's stupid. If you want him as the bench scoring big, I'd rather keep the pick and Jones to fill pretty much the same role that you'd be asking Okafor to fill. Maybe they think Jones is going to get too much to keep him.

So does Jones, look at his shooting stats, the outside shooting is a mirage, he does most of his damage at the rim.

And I wouldn't want Jones to be anymore then a bench player on a reasonable contract for this team.

I think MM laid out the best case scenario for using Okafor, but I just don't like that fit and AD taking up so many minutes makes that much less optimal IMO. As I do not think they fit well together long-term,
If Okafor was just an average defender and a better rebounder I could swallow it, but honestly I would rather not roll the dice on losing a potential late lottery pick(seeing as Phily is not settling for lottery protected right now) to give another awkward fitting center a shot.
