The people that voted them in didn't want to move closer to socialized medicine. They did our bidding as they were supposed to do.
By your logic, you therefore agree with the Democrats decision to try and block the new SCOTUS nominee then. The people that voted them in do not want the court to move closer to the right. They are doing our bidding as they are supposed to do.
You really believe in that? A dysfunctional government by design?

They're such a reasonable bunch.
ATTENTION: Those who think that a middle ground can be found with Democrats, as if the past 8 years haven't taught you they desire no middle ground, this should hopefully serve as another reminder that there is NO middle ground to be had with radicals, and that's exactly what they have become. When we bend, we only take the line of middle ground further and further to the left. It never goes to the right, so stop bending. Take notes from Obama. He didn't give a rats arse about Conservatives and finding a middle ground. frick the Democrats, exactly like they treated Conservatives, give them their own medicine.

I'm a pragmatist. You and the Spleen are two shining examples of what I was talking about.
You are cheering for Trump to be held up at all costs. The nuclear option should be used knowing this.
How about we just support a judge based on his ability to interpret the cases brought before the Supreme Court on their merits. Get politics out of the USSC as much as possible.

Too much political capital in Roe v Wade for that to ever happen.

Empty rhetoric with no true meaning. Political fast food for the masses.
America first as in:
Putting the safety of Americans first by halting immigration from certain countries.
Making sure tax dollars don't go to overseas abortions.
Keeping jobs here in America by being more business friendly.
Withdrew from TPP which is a bad deal for Americans.
Began talks of constructing wall which will help with the 10 billion a year it cost tax payers due to illegal immigration.
Working on repealing Obamacare which is a VAST overreach of Fed Gov into our lives that is completely anti freedom.
Moved forward on pipelines which makes us less dependent on foreign resources.
Ending federal funding of sanctuary cities.
Its not empty rhetoric. Its facts and all of those facts are Trump putting America first.

They made it clear they would not allow any bi-partisan compromise on his healthcare agenda
Healthcare was part of it, but the bigger wedge was over the stimulus package. By the time ACA made it to the floor, the toxic environment was well in place following the stimulus bill fight.

I think Obama made some attempts to compromise with the Republicans early on.
"Elections have consequences – and at the end of the day, I won." That was said several days after the inauguration to Eric Cantor by President Obama.
I don't know what world you live in, but in mine that's not the words of someone who is trying to compromise.

quote:I think you misinterpreted Spleen and I's discussion. We are lamenting the state of pendulum swing partisan politics, discussing its origin, and acknowledging that it is very difficult to reverse. The Trump administration and conservatives in general right now are in the mode of sticking their thumb in the eye of everyone who voted against them. Democrats are vowing to stand against them. With both sides acting in a completely partisan manner, at war with the other, what else can we do but hope for damage control relative to Trump's agenda?
You are cheering for Trump to be held up at all costs.
It is not as if your side is offering some sort of olive branch.
quote:Based on Trump's appointments to head government agencies (completely politics based...), we both know this has no chance of happening whatsoever. If it does, he/she will be bi-partisan confirmed. But it won't.

i mean, he's in no hurry. can they keep up the filibuster for 4 years?
As someone earlier mentioned I wished require a physical presence talking all the time to have a filibuster. Let them all expose their vacuousness 24/7 and then try to win their seats back in '18.

It sounds like your definition of "America first" is completely in line with the expressed agenda of the fringe right. Convenient, no?

The stimulus that helped save our economy. Yep. I remember

Well see, I'm not really. I am fighting the urge to cheer it after watching the Republicans do it to Obama for 8 years, but I also realize the danger in that. It's not good for democracy, nor this country.

My definition of "America first" are policies and actions meant to benefit the American people first and foremost with their well being more important than interest of other countries and their people.
