"If Republicans dominate the 2018 midterms, they will control the Senate (and with it, the Supreme Court) for years, and they will draw district lines in states that will lock in majorities in the House and across state capitals, killing the next generation of Democrats in the crib, setting up the GOP for an even more dominant 2020 and beyond."

And 6 months ago they were writing the GOP's obituary. Major political parties have 9 lives, and in the rare event one of them fails (it's only happened once in US history) something will rise to take its place that incorporates the original principals. The Democrats will be around in some form, by that name or something else. And they will be ascendant again. Perhaps by the next election cycle, perhaps not, but they will be back.

What happened the next night shocked even the most pessimistic Democrats. But in another sense, it was the reckoning the party had been expecting for years. They were counting on a Clinton win to paper over a deeper rot they’ve been worrying about—and to buy them some time to start coming up with answers. In other words, it wasn’t just Donald Trump. Or the Russians. Or James Comey. Or all the problems with how Clinton and her aides ran the campaign. Win or lose, Democrats were facing an existential crisis in the years ahead—the result of years of complacency, ignoring the withering of the grass roots and the state parties, sitting by as Republicans racked up local win after local win.

They better get the courts turned around quick, because any redistricting will be ruled "racist" based on recent attempts.

Those safe districts have locked in guaranteed Black Reps (many suck), RL...but at the same time guaranteed that Black voices will only be heeded in THOSE Districts. Which could be considered a bad thing for Blacks across the board; though not to the Reps who get elected regardless.
And re the 'racist' thing in the Courts...that all ends up at the Supreme Court. And that is why I asked the other day if Conservatives would be okay with Trump (deficit) Spending in Urban areas in order to secure an eight year dominance and a stacked Court...with the downside of debt incurred. Though, real bargain Infrastructure in our big Cities is a win.
They are also going to have to fix the voting thing; verified ballots for sure.

No, Planned Parenthood does that with its abortion clinics in minority neighborhoods.
