Honest thoughts on HBO's Westworld

I am now thru 6 episodes of Westworld and I'm kinda disappointed. People hyped it up to me so much that I think I was expecting to have my socks blown off.
It's very good but I wouldn't call it great at this point. Am I calling it too early?

I said over and over that they over did it. They tried too hard to make it epic. It was ok, nothing great.
I got blasted for saying it. People said I was stupid

Here's your problem. Next time someone tries to do this tell them to calm their tits.

All in all, I liked it. It wasn't all that it was hyped up to be...but I took the hype with a grain of salt. It kept me interested enough to finish the season.

Different strokes man. Typically, when I have someone pushing a new show on me I like to see what other series they really like. If we don't have a lot of common interest, then I will usually take their recommendation with a grain of salt.

YESSSSS!!!!!
you are calling it too early, i generally held your same opinion...the finale changed my mind completely! Stick with it.

That's a reason I don't read reviews, trailers, etc on things I really want to watch. Nothing right nor wrong, just people have a wide range of likes and dislikes.

It's a high quality television program. But what more are you expecting from it? It isn't going to transform your understanding of the world or perform sexual favors for you.

You cannot judge this show on 6 episodes. Trust me.
It is the SLOWEST of burns. The revelations, hints, overall plot reveals happen extremely slowly and not until pretty much the end. They are COMPLETELY worth it, but the first 9ish episodes are very much setting up that endgame.
They took a huge risk with how slow they took it, but once you reach the end you realize why they did what they did and how it all came together.
Its pretty great TV overall.

Hmm if you're thru 6 episodes you should know full well how "epic" the show is. Watch episode 1 at least twice to catch the subtleties. There's a lot going on in that 1st episode.
If anyone on this thread tries to tell you it's not a good show it's because they're a stupid person who doesn't understand the scope of the westworld universe and how impactful every move of every character really is.

I don't see how someone can hate on this and "like" the office.
one makes you think
the other makes you dumb

i have read and re-read/watched and re-watched everything michael crichton has written, produced and directed...big fan
i'm a sc-fi AND a history freak
i think anthony hopkins is a top-10 actor all time
i appreciate smart storytelling that doesnt pander to the audience
given all that i should have loved wetworld, and i didnt. it didnt grab me so i let it go

It was a very good show. Some sequences in the finale are absurd and the Maeve storyline is utterly nonsensical, but it's a very well done show for the most part. Kinda hurt that every fan theory pretty much came through

It was entertaining. The last episode was really good as far as wrapping it up and explaining certain things
But the entire season was so slow and purposefully confusing that when all the reveals started happening around the 3rd to last episode I either had already figured it out or I didn't care that much. I didn't care about the Dolores character until the end when it all made sense but by then I was already done with her boring character to have it make any impact.

I am about as far along as you and also struggling with it in contrast to very high expectations.
I fall asleep almost every time I try to watch it. Now, I tend to watch it late at night and am admittedly tired, but I don't fall asleep consistently with any other shows.
It isn't in my genre wheelhouse (not a very big fan of either sci fi or westerns), so maybe my expectations were unwarranted.
I will stick it out and hope digesting the season in full prove satisfying, but so far it seems kind of a silly mess.

Keep watching. I felt like you did at about the same point you are at. It gets better soon and pays off in the end.

I loved it from the start because I had no clue where it was going and thought the acting and choreography were superb. i try to read no information on a show before viewing other than watching the trailer. Shows are not for everyone, but I love shows that take risks in their storytelling.
