how the frick does bama have trent richardson come back and run as scout team running back for them and that not be a violation?
the difference is it isn't a violation for current players to have contact with former players. It is a violation for a recruit to have contact with players like that. Regardless, nothing is going to come of this, not sure why people seem to be freaking out. These are both very minor violations

You mean, having former Bama/NFL players PARTICIPATE in practice? Don't you? IMHO, That is easily for more egregious than a hand shake.
Exactly. Add to this the fact that said players take the work away from current players who can focus on the game and not have to imitate the opponent.
This goes hand in hand with the stupid arse coaching staff stuff. The "shadow" coaches can focus on breaking down film/game planning while the "real" coaches do their job. There is a limit on players and coaches for a reason, it is UNFAIR to other teams to have less strain on people due to this.
It absolutely floors me that Sark can just step right in, he obviously has been coaching more that he is allowed to like all other Bama personnel.

I know Alex Bregman was posing for pictures with a bunch of different baseball recruits when he was in for the Alabama game. I saw a few posted on-line.
I know Shaq has talked to basketball recruits when he comes to football games, if any are visiting at that time.
This is a wink-wink-nod-nod rule that has no repercussions, but they enforce these little admin issues to keep it from expanding and becoming a big deal.

SO are we. We just don't do it. You people are sensitive pussies.

I fail to understand how an meeting an ex-LSU player/alum is a violation of any kind with recruiting. What's the point of using former player's pictures & videos all over the athletic facilties but these kids can't actually shake their hands?!?!?
So are we to believe that Bo Jackson, Shaq, Tebow, Flutie, name them all are barred from meeting recruits in any on-campus setting? What if they meet a kid as say a freshman or sophomore that isn't being recruited but then becomes a recruit by their junior or senior years?

No. Bo is easily one of the best at his job in the entire country.
Take pride in the fact that LSU goes above and beyond to have a clean program and image, while winning the RIGHT WAY.
I'll stop typing now since this is the rant...

These were self reported violations, and no penalties because of it. Oh well. Let's move on.

The point is that penalties/rules against ridiculous crap like this are the reason people HATE the NCAA offices. Far too much regulation for crap that does not need to be regulated.
Rules/sanctions against hookers, excessive spending on recruits, etc = understandable.
Rules/sanctions against a bottle of Powerade, some snacks, or shaking the hand of sports heroes/stars = C'MON MAN!!!

This is no big deal. They do this to help prevent bigger violations.
If they slap your hand because Shaq took a selfie on the sideline, it may prevent Shaq from calling a recruit in the future. (illustrative example only)

EXACTLY
And to all the numnuts comparing this to interactions with players at bama, are just that, numnuts. Recruits =/= players

So Alabama can have NFL and ExNFL players practice with them but we cant have an ex player shake a recruit hand on the sideline

I understand that interaction with an agent is a violation, but this?
These are SELF REPORTED violations. The NCAA could give a shite less about them. It's just our department doing their job.
The NCAA has to have rules. Some of you all need to get a grip.
If the NCAA were to punish us for this, then it's a whole 'nother deal. But they aren't and it's a 'hey, don't do that again' type of deal.

Pay the former players a nominal fee to be a "consultant / temp staffer" every time they visit to avoid this bullshite and now they can talk to them and hang out with out the issues.

Yet Alabama can pay their players and have 2 coaching staffs.
and the Bama obsession continues...

People don't care about what the article actually said. They just need an excuse to bitch about something Bama.

I agree this seems silly, but the NCAA has to draw the line somewhere. If the line needs to be moved, then fine, move it, but the line has to be drawn somewhere.

Pretty sure Herron received the ride from an agent. Hence the Bowl suspension. Take it FWIW

Former bama NFL players can run as scout team players... seems like this 'contact' could amount to a considerable number of secondary violations.
